Initially high frustration factor / But in fact still be increased [Update 02/27/2014]

HP Pavilion G6 2241sg 39.6 cm (15.6-inch) notebook (Intel Core i5 3210m, 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD Graphics 4000, DVD, Win 8) Black (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

So actually for several years I am with HP both in business as well as customer area very satisfied, but this device has already cost me some nerves. The HP comes with a Windows 8, is not first bad one can change at any time (I thought at least). But Nope, it just requires a few tricks of the trade at all to be able to install another system, not to mention lack of manuals, installation media and all drivers.

Ultimately, the HP is quite well made, for the built-in hardware also incredibly cheap and fast, because you can not complain, at least, but completely satisfied me, the unit has not made. A Windows 8 and driver DVD would have been nice, or a handbook, but there is of me a star deduction. The second point deduction, there are sure that you also can not create a clean Recovery DVD easily, since

1. bloatware installed on your system (Norton Trials etc.)
and
2. The system itself is branded, HP Bootlogo because I know in the end not all of which has been adapted to the system else.

The worst thing is that no Windows 7 drivers are listed on the HP site for this device and you cumbersome by click through the at least 7 not installed devices, the vendor / device ID out looking and then allowed to go to driver search (of course, from another PC because of HP for Windows 7 Installation course no WLAN / LAN access ...)

But, here is a summary of all the steps required to upgrade for everyone else, I want to save this problem by trial and error on a Windows 7 (I like Windows 8 is not absolutely on devices without a touchscreen)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Immediately after switching on you have to quickly press the ESC key in order to get into the bios and can provide the Legacy Support Enabled in System Configuration. F10 Save Settings and thereafter a passcode to be displayed type and will have to confirm by pressing Enter.

The next restart brings a then with F9 on the resides in the boot menu, where you DVD drive or USB stick selects the Windows 7 (as a USB port here is the taking located right next to the power connector, the other two are USB 3 ports that operate unfortunately until later ...)

For partitioning I have created 3 partitions:

102400 for System
272 038 Data
102400 for backup (it can then be via software reflect the system partition later)

After the Windows 7 installation can be found in the device manager a lot of uninstalled equipment,
the links to be found on the 1st comment for review

I first installed the Network Controller (WLAN), the Windows Update has found itself then the drivers for the PCI communication device. Then the SM Bus Controller (chipset) installed and after a reboot was the "Unknown device" with me away. For safety, I have but still listed the download link for the device above. After the reboot, then the PCI device (card reader) and Ethernet controllers can be installed. After the USB driver (Intel USB 3.0 host) is installed, a reboot is also due (better safe than sorry) and the standard VGA graphics card by right-clicking - update as expected automatically to Intel HD Graphics 4000 and wants a last reboot> driver.

This all sounds here naturally short and painless, but no driver CD or direct download links on the HP site for G6 2241 which is to gather quite cumbersome. As I would have expected a little more from HP.

[Update 27/02/2014]
I hat ezwar thought that nothing worse may happen more, but I must correct:
An ugly Trojans moved me to want to install the system fresh. I also used the Windows 8 make install again and have tended for HP contacted to obtain further information. For an installation media was not available. For me it was primarily a clean OEM DVD. First one went at HP "Expertly" on my Trojan problem and wanted to tell me a free antivirus software can never work as well, such as a Norton product that you wanted to sell me right on the phone.

The indication that any antivirus software against zero day exploits is unprotected and can only protect against viruses / Trojans that are already known, has brought at least this vexing issue fairly quickly off the table.

I was offered a special on my notebook trimmed DVD produce abroad, course fee, since it indeed would entail a certain effort. I care but little to it to get the first, adapted from HP Windows operating system and then to trust more in addition to the fact that the Chinese love are not installing backdoor and asked for the OEM DVD for which I have paid ultimately even with product purchase. The course I did not get. They referred me to the seller, in his Amazon, which refers me sending you back to the manufacturer because you can send me any installation media / wants and tells me that I would have to create a Recovery DVD.

The Recovery DVD would just not a DVD but around 4 DVDs have been with the whole mess that's been pre-integrated by HP and the Chinese love.

That means now: either I torture myself again through the Windows 7 installation, or buy me for 80 a Windows 8 OEM DVD which the notebook has actually cost no 400 but almost 500.

But this much is certain, as long as at the next PC / notebook is not directly an installation media here, I will not buy equipment in which I should pay for a Windows, which is actually supplied only in manipulated form and not as a medium. The 3 star rating I will not adapt further, although I would love to forgive out of spite 0 points for that mess.
