It comes with a code for the software data center, which can be purchased from the online store of Sigma. With the code you get 50% discount on the software. So instead of 10 you pay only 5 minutes.
However, the docking station is (for a USB connection to the PC) with 20 quite expensive. Docking station and software together cost more than the bicycle computer itself.
I bought only the software. The data can also enter 'manually' in the software. If you can buy the docking station to set the BC 1609 also completely on the software. In the end, however, it also does a simple Excel spreadsheet with charts to visually represent his tours.
Positive
- Functions (standard functions + temperature, 2 wheel sizes eg for MTB + Road, light)
- The mount for the display can be both on the handlebar (horizontal) and the stem mount (vertical). Especially for mountain bikes, which often have a 'kink' in the arm, which is very helpful!
- Weatherproof; whether direct sunlight or wet conditions, the BC 1609 is functioning properly.
- The contrast can be, depending on the sunlight, adjust in 3 levels.
- Very simple to install. You do not need screws and no tools. Made very clever of the Sigma-engineers.
- For the bike computer, there are many extensions: cadence sensor, docking station for a USB connection to the PC, Data Center Software for the evaluation and compilation of tours (all with extra cost)
- The buttons have to be able to accurately and use the correct size and pressure points around the BC well while driving. With Hand Look, there should be no problems.
- Chic design
- High-quality workmanship, not cheap plastic. On the underside with a rubber coating. Overall, the display makes a very stable impression
- On the Sigma website there are detailed installation and product videos
Negative
- The BC 1609 unfortunately does not have a 'scan feature' in the example Max km / h, average-km / h, and distance traveled are displayed alternately.
- The operation is at the beginning a bit strange. But after a few days is no longer a problem.
- The font of the numbers is not 100% well thought out. Because the number 2 (two) and 7 (seven) look very similar at first glance.
- The light can turn on only with a key operation. After 3 seconds, it goes out again. So if in the dark drives still do not see constantly how fast it goes. A continuous lighting would probably also go too much on the battery.
- Installation with the rubber bands is sufficient in and of itself. Who wants to play it safe but (especially for the cable) should also use more cable ties. However, these are not included. Costs but not much;)
- The BC 1609 does not turn completely off, but only goes to standby mode by the time and a 'BC 1609' lettering appears. For a longer battery life it would be better if the display turns off completely.
Because of the smaller defects I would forgive 4 1/2 stars. Since that is not possible on Amazon and I'm finally happy with the bike computer (especially for the fair price), I forgive 5 Stars.
Supplement: 23/07/2013
2 years and more than 2,000 km of MTB later I'm with the BC 1609 is still fully satisfied! Whether in winter at temperatures below zero or in summer at + 40 ° C in the sun, the computer works perfectly. It is also still the original battery in it.
During a fall on asphalt, in which me even a pedal is pulled down, the computer remained in its holder and has so not even a scratch.
All components (transmitter, magnet, cable, rubber rings) are still in good condition; despite heat, cold, rain and even frost.
