Interesting theme but boring treatment

A road movie as only Americans know the deal.
A bit like a Thelma & Louise, unless it is a father and his daughter, amid uprooting.
Schroder (the father) can not stand to be sidelined in the life of his daughter, he is of German origin and s' is entirely invented an identity and an American childhood. Except that the divorce proceedings and custody of his daughter to risk coming to light his subterfuge then "derailed" and decided to leave a few days with her daughter.
The theme was tempting but the author lugs around us in a lot of historical and political considerations that weigh much history. This is redundant and I struggled to cling even more to finish it.
