Do me this housing bought because my old Macbook only has USB 2.0 ports and a Thunderboltdock was too expensive. Have a Crucial SSD MX100 built and well worth it for me absolutely, about twice as fast speed and unlike a conventional hard drive just a whisper. With Blackmagic Speed Test I come on ordinary 83MB / sec writing and reading (in my Macbook is a Samsung SSD 850 EVO installed, so the interface is the limiting factor). Think more is via Firewire not in it, but it was enough for me. Typically I copy now and then file sizes to 2GB, which is thus done in less than half a minute, perfectly acceptable for me. Did plus a bootable OSX created as a test system on which works fast and without perceptible latencies. Even if I still start at about Parallels with Windows, it still runs quickly and without delays. Because I need to copy rarely very large amount of data, firewire is for me perfectly adequate and sufficient in conjunction with an SSD for me for a long time. The housing is very high and completely made of aluminum, therefore fits very well with the MacBook Pro. Power is supplied only via the Firewire cable. Also, the on-off switch makes sense. The blue LED is not annoying, but can also be easily masked.
