Normally, this whiskey has clearly earned 5 stars. There are few other whiskeys that come along so powerful, spicy, complex and balanced. After one of the exterme peat smoke at the beginning almost knocks down (ok - bit of an exaggeration) one can perceive a wealth of flavors that I've experienced almost nowhere together. One notices the powerful sweetness of sherry, you can taste the sea and much more. The finish is very long and intense. A tip of whiskey! But why only 4 stars? This is the Amazon due Bewertungsstategie. Indeed, there are the ripened Lagavulin (Distillers Edition). This puts the whole again to the crown. The whiskey is then ripened again for 6 months (or longer) in Pedro Ximenez (sherry) barrels. This whiskey is just more complex and balanced and gets me the full 5 stars. In percentages I give the normal Lagavulin 95% and ripened Destillers Edition full marks. Of course, Lagavulin makes the reward even royally. Who the surcharge of 25 do not mind, the is the Lagavullin Distillers Edition warmly recommended. Anyway, both great whiskeys must shy away from any comparison. However, both are probably not necessarily suitable for beginners whiskey. You surely overwhelm many at the beginning. If both a regular place in my bar safe.
