To separate them, I call them as follows: original hard drive abbreviated OF (by 2011) abbreviated, replacement # 1 E1 and E2 at the end (substitute # 2)..
The OF was tadelos except for two things. I was the complicated on / off bit annoyed (why use one toggle switch no?) And of course the short lifetime. The rest as I said tadelos: connected to the computer, easily recognized, drivers were not necessary - the disc was fully usable under XP.
After unfortunate departed this life, I asked for a replacement, because the 2-year warranty were not depleted.
E1: Connected, not recognized, installed driver and another tried what was recommended in forums and on the support page of wd.com (Including formatting, GPT, MBR). On the situation, it has unfortunately not changed. Strangely, it was recognized under other operating systems (OSX, Ubuntu, Vista, 7 - but because after two attempts). On another computer with XP but not, so which could not be due to my computer. A second replacement was requested by me.
E2: Connected, not recognized. Without having the further steps of E1 done, I dare to say that I will get even with this same result.
Soon I will also return the E2. There may be some money back. But even if not, a new My Book I do not want to have. I will look at other vendors. A Seagate has fallen into the eye. Or maybe from WD, but this time the 3TB Desktop (the time it apparently did not exist), once the emotions have subsided. Let's see.
I hope this is my review not be construed that I just wanted to write down my frustrations. I'm really angry, but am trying my situation as objectively as possible to describe, despite the absurd situation (a hard disk works (e), which it therefore must be no incompatibilities with XP, the other two do not). I am otherwise a satisfied customer when it comes to hard drives from Western Digital. I addition to the WD My Book a few desktops (has the oldest four years on his back) and there was never quite the same kind Zickereien.
