The Eschenbach Trophy AS 10x50 Ww is a well-designed, solid, well-balanced, very pleasant glass with excellent sharpness, bright, high-contrast imaging, a relatively strong (10x) magnification and excellent three-dimensional representation, top mechanics and admirable build quality. A pair of binoculars for life one might say. It is suitable for almost all applications.
The price-performance ratio is excellent.
The strength of this glass is the extensive nature watching, even in difficult lighting conditions.
Who is extremely demanding and wants to get out squeeze the last bit of a comparable optics can only rely on Nikon Leica, Leitz, Zeiss, Steiner and Swarovski, but have to pay many times, some more than 2,000 euros. Meanwhile, I have also 1 Zeiss Victory 8x56, 8x50 1 Leica Trinovid and much more but these bring only in extreme situations a minimal noticeable improvement.
This binoculars is thus a very very good compromise between quality and price, a good, reliable companion for life.
Von Eschenbach I also have the powerful Farlux 9x63 (Roof) and the tiny glass Farlux Pocket 8x24 B Allweather. Both are also fantastically well.
One has to at Eschenbach between inexpensive (Arena etc.) and premium binoculars distinguish (Farlux). The Trophy AS / P 10x50 B Ww there for decades. At that time it cost at Brinkmann rd. 500 DM and was loose as much as over 500 euros today. It is now for small money to have because research and development and tools have long been amortized and the production was probably outsourced. That the binoculars has become so "cheap", so does not that it is "fair", but on the contrary, that you get an extraordinary amount of money.
In my estimation, this binocular is one of the big shots and the premium series and I do not want to part with it. Incidentally, these binoculars is to RE. 20 years is still in mint condition and it will function perfectly with renal safety for many decades as the first day.
Possible limitations:
For mountain hikes may be slightly difficult. Alternative would be a small Nikon Travelite V 8x25 CF (75-100 euros) delivers only half the weight and despite small 25mm lenses yet clear images, a Farlux which 8x24B that provides incredibly crisp images, or expensive Zeiss and Leica Pocket-glasses.
For marine applications a floatable, waterproof glass with gas filling, O-rings and compass is a better choice (see Steiner Commander that is also used in the federal and US Navy). But that is also really expensive!
For astronomical observation is not only a good tripod essential, the Trophy AS 10x50 is a plethora of stars, however, does not bring enough magnification and is permanently langeweilig (for celestial objects is a good 25x100 binoculars with approx. 5 Kg weight, from 350 Euro simply optimal).
