"Belonging" (46 min.), Taken in April 1974 in Oslo, is the first record of the European Quartet, which includes both Keith Jarrett Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen. Unfortunately published this legendary quartet only "My Song" (1977) and the live recordings "Nude Ants" and "Personal Mountains" (both 1979). "Belonging" is a relatively classic jazz plate of rather short pieces that sound very catchy, melodic and almost popmässig. Particular strong are the meditative and lyrical "Blossom" and the groovy "Long as you know you're living yours". Only the longest piece of "Solstice" has therefore freer forms does not sound so popmässig as the other pieces.
