"JIM MORRISON BEYOND THE DOORS" HERVE MULLER (Albin Michel, 1978)

.... When at the end of the same year (67) went out the second 33 rpm of the group, "Strange Days", the Doors had meanwhile become famous and the pack of critics was released. With this record, they rebuked them all at once with not having any renewed and lost the spontaneous force of precedent. That's one way of putting it, but a way for the less tendentious. The ten tracks are exactly the same vein as the first album, for the simple reason that most date from the same time and are in the directory in the group had "Wiskey-a-Gogo". It includes especially "Moonlight Drive", the song that had convinced Ray to a group with Jim on the beach in Venice two years ago, and the other epic sequel of The Doors, "When The Music's Over". But as they had so easily made, they spent much more time in the studio and production work is considerably more elaborate. What is lost in spontaneity gross gains in finesse, through subtly intricate arrangements, both for voice as for instrumentation. In addition, the group this time appealed on several pieces, a bassist, Doug Lubahn. This one, we find the following two albums, was a member of Clear Light, a group that the producer of The Doors, Paul Rothchild, had discovered and also registered at Elektra. The company saw in them the "new Doors" (already!) And had just released their first album (1).
Paradoxically it is the Krieger's guitar playing which is a little disappointing on this disc, being less original than the previous. One gets the impression that in the meantime he listened a lot guitarists of San Francisco and their great master, Jerry Garcia, and he strives to their sound "acid". This is very sensitive, especially on "People Are Strange". By cons, it is once again at Krieger that the group had a second great hit, this here "Love Me Two Times"
