In "The Door with Seven Locks" we follow Inspector Dick Martin on his last working day. This was supposed to end quietly and with a boring case of a stolen book, but the inspector is sliding into a more than mysterious case, which begins with the strangulation of a small-time crook and Martins complete detective's instinct urges ...
All too well you already know the story of Wallace. Follow the inspector on his last working day at Scotland Yard and already the event begins with the seven locks - triggered by a corpse. Succeeds Marc friend to bring the story in a good order, and to give life the dialogues between the characters. This time, it makes it much easier Wallace also because a friend had to be working for the first episode of the radio drama series not as a compelling story. Despite the many contents, the friend houses from the novel in this radio play, it has no length in my eyes. Everything sits at the place to which it seems to belong. No scene is redundant. No scene is missing. Just as a radio play editor should be.
Under the really good and audible directed by Dennis Blank and Michael Eickhorst a good reception Cast brings the dialogues to life. Again leading Sabine Yaeger as omniscient narrator through history. Where do I even missed the male narrator in the first episode, I like it now really good. Without question it is a good spokesperson, but I have with Edgar Wallace radio plays before imagined - due to the occupations of the label - connected male narrator. This made me in the first episode then probably something to hurdle, to get familiar with a female narrator in Edgar Wallace. Markus Pfeiffer, heard in the role of the inspector, is very reminiscent of the investigators occupations of Wallace Hörspiele of Maritim. A friendly and easy to understand voice, as well as a compelling drama. Again in the role of Sir William's Bert Franzke heard and that's a good thing. Because he is a good and clear choice for the head of the Yard. Klaus-Michael Nix is without doubt a good cast for Dr. Antonio Staletti - both theatrically and vocally. Still, I would have somehow liked another spokesman for the role. However, this is only my personal feeling - I can not really explain this. That you had certainly ever. There's just this idea that you would have expected a different voice. The remaining speakers, including Sarah Riedel, Frank-Otto Schenk, Arianne Borbach, Wanja Gerick, Harald Effenberg, Olaf Reichmann and Björn Schalla are all busy and excellent speakers vocally fit.
"Suitable" would be an understated name for the music that Dennis Rohling has also composed for this radio play of Hörplaneten. Clear you have to like the music of Dennis blank, but that is always a matter of taste. I like them and the radio plays from Hörplaneten it fits very well. And here at Wallace also. How do I find, has also created a balanced mix of sound effects and music (eg instead of constant noise of quick steps a floating piece of music).
For the logo, the artwork and design by Alexander Wieding (zeichentier.com) is responsible. A very good choice, I think. In the run - during the planning of the series - the cover artwork has been already discussed very positive. Gloomy illustrations in a dark, classical-style layout. Everything looks after the radio dramas of Europe and Maritim from earlier. So it will probably be and so it may also - in combination a single "work of art" - to convince. "Eyecatcher" one might call it.
Conclusion: Where "The Ogre" yet thanks to the unfortunate historical document cast a shadow on the overall quality of the first radio play Wallace, can "The Door with Seven Locks" in full strength points. In addition to the already really good production (music, editing, directing, occupation and cover layout) has Marc friend now transformed even one of in my eyes best novel templates of detective writer in a really round script that both Wallace and friend is worthy. Just as a radio play Wallace out of the house should be Hörplanet. Maybe it was not the best decision to choose for the starting sequence a weak novel, although it was the ambition of the label to start with a lesser-known material. So how could you safely deduce from the previous line, I am very satisfied with this radio play. And that's why I give an unqualified recommendation to buy!
