This first book introduces "the Kirby", ie hair-raising speed of the universe Fourth World, which includes 4 titles New Gods, Mister Miracle, Jimmy Olsen and Forever People. This series marked the comics of the 70's because there was no epic of this kind, in fact there was nothing like it! This epic has not had the expected success and DC editor used for other Kirby titles; it is a privilege to find this edition as series, with a few words of experts (Mark Evanier in particular), as Kirby certainly would have liked. I personally just regret the very low number of reproductions of the original designs, while ridiculous blow-up drawings fill the hole layout (what graphic had this ridiculous idea?). We can do many reproaches to the series: the dialogues are sometimes awkward, implausible events, sometimes incoherent rhythm, we love Kirby cartoonish style (then one becomes a fan) or hate it (most readers, and it is a fan who admits). Paper does not live up to some recent collections, when compared for example to reissues of Kirby works at its 2nd period Marvel (Dinosaur Devil or Demon, for example), but my experience is that a book disappears after an unfortunate ready, infiltration, lost in a cardboard moving ... long before the paper deteriorates because of its poor quality. This edition is ultimately of sufficient quality.
