Actually surprising that Klug Hardt / Lenau 'Schilflieder' could almost be forgotten; perhaps brings Albrecht Mayer's newest concept album also this natural romance (romantic nature), with light-is indeed truly timeless, again more into consciousness.

Explicitly for oboe written repertoire is somewhat scarce, but are Schumann's '3 Romances for oboe (ad libitum Violin) and piano accompaniment', Herzogenbergs 'Trio for Oboe, Horn (Marie-Luise Neunecker) and Piano' and other romantic impressions (Steinmetz , Becker, Weismann) certainly not just 'filler' to come about at a whopping hour oboe romance, but necessarily very enriching additions to the original oboe repertoire, especially as Klug Hardt 'Schilflieder'-setting rather Schumann'scher romance close is that fits!

It should be noted that the relatively meager oboe literature was also an expression of the then inadequate instrument and playing techniques, which is why earlier composers clarinets gave preference. But: How nice that today mature instrument technology, ingenious feinfühligstes game, as the coming of a big heart artistic commitment just inspiring demonstrate the oboe in its unique characteristics, beauty and diversity! So my opinion is this new CD a must for lovers of the genre and anyway for fans of Albrecht Mayer, Markus Becker, Tabea Zimmermann and Marie-Luise Neunecker. 'Chapeau!', Not least for the excellent 'Ausgrabungs' work ...
On The Edge:
Nikolaus Lenau (Nikolaus Franz Edler von Niembsch Strehlenau, 1802-1850) has inspired a 'romantic' poet several composers (Schumann, Hensel, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Wolf, Strauss, Schoeck, etc.), as well Klughardt. For Lenau evocative images of nature that 'the reed shores' sung songs, romantic and lyrical aspects were important. In violin he sought consolation: 'The violin is played a few hours. It's pretty forward. My sound is always solid, safe, clear and full. Double stops, staccato, trills etc succeed sometimes even excellent. My Guarneriusgeige is glorious, I kiss sometimes with delight. It is over 100 years old ... "And: 'Because no medicine would help against my concern nerve disease, I finally took out my divine Josephus Guarnerius, played me a very fresh steyerischen Landler and danced ..." died in 1850 in Lenau Oberdöbling / Austria.
Mag August Friedrich Martin Klughardt the oboe as the (already 'have reeds) saw pipe mouthpiece instrument, the double meaning of the word is to his setting of Lenau' Reed songs' close. Klughardt (born 1847 in Köthen, died 1902 in Roßlau) worked as a pianist, composer, conductor; Encounters with Liszt in Weimar, conducted by Wagner's Ring 1892/93 as Kapellmeister in Dessau. As a composer Klughardt has inter alia 6 symphonies, 8 orchestral works (eg Concert Piece for Oboe and Orchestra in F major op.18), 4 operas, 3 major vocal works, 8 chamber music pieces (including the wind quintet in C major op.79) and just the 'Schilflieder 'leave after Lenau poems.
