I am not sure if this opera is to ever find anywhere in the world in a Schedule of an opera house. The more I am glad that the company Philips Classics has released this recording from Vienna from 1977. This recording of Verdi's La Battaglia Di Legnano is know quite outstanding and probably the only way this wonderful Verdi opera. I did the work so far and strange, but as a passionate supporter Verdi will I know all his operas. So I bought this recording here. I can recommend all Verdi friends. This opera is a typical Verdi. Starting with sweeping overture, introduction with the choir and then arias and duets and large choral scenes are strung together. The music is reminiscent in the tenor / baritone duets strongly to Don Carlo. In the crowd scenes, I am reminded of Nabucco or the Lombards. This opera deserves to be really well-known, because this music is beautiful. There music Choir and Symphony Orchestra ORF from Vienna under the Verdi specialist Lamberto Gardelli. This has recorded a variety of Verdi operas, including very rarely performed Verdi operas and unknown. The cast of La Battaglia di Legnano is consistently fantastic in all parts. Jose Carreras sings with Arrigo tenoralem melting, strength and passion. Katia Ricciarelli as Lida is equally terrific. She has gorgeous coloratura, clear highs and wonderful Piani. This opera and recording here deserves my full consent. Hopefully more Verdi opera and friends will get to know this. When not on stage, then here in this wonderful recording.
