The build quality is superb and the scan 5 appears to be similar robust as the IRT 4520. This fell off us countless times and unfortunately had a lot of plugging, which was not a problem. Somehow I think, unfortunately, that the old Thermoscan better in the hand than the new. Unfortunately, the scan 5 has no backlit display, there is this only when scanning 7. A but at night very useful addition. Beim Alten there was a bowl in which you could keep the thermometer, of course, with the transparent measuring cap it.
A real nuisance when new scan 5, the included protective cap is it Always remove the measuring cap. What do you ask, even if the manufacturer recommends always to take a new order to have a good measurement result. Who does that please because in practice? Here I feel really kidding. If my child has a fever and I measure several times in the night, I will not always use a new measuring cap. At the hospital in different patients might make sense but this home? Here probably want the manufacturer to earn more!
The attached cap is therefore not to be used, or only when the thermometer is again mothballed. I am quite glad that the manufacturer has at least does not change the measuring caps and we can use for the new thermometer that old yet.
In summary, I'm disappointed in accordance with the new Thermo Scan 5, the design does not please me, it is a little unwieldy in the hand and the included protective cap to use only without measuring cap. I recommend anyone who can do without a lit display is still the old Braun IRT 4520 to buy, while it's still available, or then just equal to switch to the Scan 7.
