Nocturne is the home planet of the Salamander Space Marines, while the title of the third and final part of the Tome of Fire - trilogy. The stubborn and seemingly overwhelming psychics Nihilan has collected his allies, finished his preparations and continues to his long-planned revenge on. He wants to destroy no less than the salamander and the whole planet. A large part of the book thus occupies this invasion, in which the Salamander literally fighting for their lives. Are portrayed lot of battles in space, on the ground and in the institutions of the Salamander. Here all is already known from the Vorbänden Charaktäre occur again. Dak'ir finds his destiny, and many other destinies meet now. To this end, the author repeatedly switches between the perspectives of the different protagonists back and forth. This has sometimes more confusing than generating tension. Another characteristic of the whole trilogy is that the individual Marines - -always again survive because of their truly superhuman toughness situations where they would actually die. Even if you believe the reader that a hero would have to be really dead now, one must expect that he somehow reappears. It's annoying sometimes a little and also takes some of the stress out fighting. In contrast to this physical inviolability are the feelings and thoughts of the protagonist. Many tend to navel-gazing, are inwardly torn or aimlessly. On the one hand it is interesting to learn also about the inner workings of the heroes, on the other hand, it exaggerates the author sometimes a little and thus takes over again a lot of speed out of the book. In this bay appear as enemies Chaos Space Marines, demons, and other Dark Eldar. A little less would have been here maybe more. In sum, it is interesting to learn about the "culture" of the salamander, but also on the Dragon Warriors. Again and again exciting, well described fights and storylines are reading. In between there but sometimes runs like chewing gum. For example, if an Apothecary, initially spreads his bitterness in every scene in which he appears, the bored but then in the long run. Nocturne is just an above average Warhammer novel with some strengths but also significant weaknesses. Actually, 3.5 stars. I rounded up because of the good and consistent description of the Chapters of the Salamander.
