Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2

I opted for the TPT2 first line for two reasons.
Firstly, it has a full-fledged Windows 8 operating system, which I am not tied to products from the App Store, can be used as in other systems, but all programs (eg OpenOffice) that run on Windows computers just so.
The other important reason was the ability to operate the device with pen input for me.

For my most essential area of application is the study and the TPT2 it is possible to easily take notes lectures. It should therefore replace the classic notebook and expressed PowerPoint slides. Furthermore, I did not - as usual - always carry around 1.7 Kg weight laptop with me when I travel by train and bicycle.

The advantages of the device:
The TPT2 is less than 600g for a 10-inch tablet yet lightweight. Both the Permanent Transport, as well as the equally important holding with one hand works perfectly. The feel of the device is convincing. To the back is not easy just plastic, as with many other devices, but it is equipped with a ThinkPad typical rubber that provides a pleasant really holding feeling. The 16: 9 screen aspect ratio was for me at first a bit unusual, but proves to be quite optimized as Win8 and also results in the sense of watching movies (no black bars on sides of picture)

Also very convincing I find the pen input. The pin is housed in the tablet housing and replaced in Win8 desktop mode, the classic mouse. Because the screen recognizes the pen already, if it is still about 3 cm above the screen. Use the built-in button also can be right clicks make so that a mouse is actually a redundancy. Only the precision of the pen to the edges of the screen towards leaves something to be desired. Here did not help even a Multiple calibration. But apparently go all devices that rely on the same pen-input technology, with the same problem pregnant

Since I am the whole day on the road, was important to me that the battery of my device can hold out this time. Here I was really surprised. The battery lasts even under heavy load (WLAN, mobile Internet, watch movies, games) has always long enough. The TPT2 is me actually never gone out in the 2 months before I was home again. An immense advantage.

I was surprised also by the sound quality of the on-board speakers. Although one should not expect to get delivered here music enjoyment, but the boxes never tinny sound, but always clear - and above all outstandingly loud. When I see a football match rich usually 50% volume completely off to sound for the whole room. Watch movies is on the TPT2 thus sonically definitely very enjoyable because the sound does not work even in very loud tinny state. Only the bass frequencies are slightly underrepresented - as with all devices with such small membranes ...

The quality of the display is also perfectly adequate. Although the resolution does not reach devices like the Ipad4 or Google's Nexus 10, but I've had no impression that the image is out of focus. The colors are crisp and the display is very stable viewing angle. Several people can easily simultaneously look at the Tablet without experiencing angle-dependent loss (again very practical look at the movies ...). The brightness is alright. However, the TPT2 comes outdoors in sunlight reaching its limits. I was able to read only with great difficulty newspaper. The mirroring of the display has everything overlaid others and the brightness was too low. Can criticize you here only that with a tablet in this unique top price range should be a full HD display absolute standard!

Operation of Tablets on Win8 works perfectly well. After initial skepticism of whether the strong change compared to Win7 I have come to the conviction that Win8 is really matched almost perfectly to use with a tablet. Typing, swiping to switch between programs and the very useful split screen - everything goes quickly out of hand and just plain fun. The partially somewhat cumbersome and not very intuitive menu guidance I take as happy to accept it.

Now we come to the dark side of TPT2:
Most frightened me that Lenovo apparently begins to orient the tablet market leader when it comes to delivery. Only a USB cable and a power adapter are included. This power supply is a nuisance. With it, the complete loading the TPT2 lasts for more than six hours. This is very impractical and actually allows only charging overnight. Although Lenovo offers here a dock connector, cheap rate, by means of which the charging time is shortened to about an hour, but this suggests an extra tool with rich 80 to book. The same applies for the Bluetooth keyboard. Lenovo has indeed developed its own keyboard for TPT2, but these have to separately purchase (120). With all the equipment that make the tablet only really be for laptop replacement, you are then going thus already good 1000. I find this kind of gadget unahemessen policy, especially since there are devices from other vendors, in which tablet and keyboard can be purchased together and that for a few hundred euros less. And so serious the performance difference is then also no longer that this price difference would not really justified.
Also ThinkPad uncharacteristic falls from the length of the warranty. I was used to get on equipment from the ThinkPad always a three-year warranty. When TPT2 only one year warranty is offered. For a manufacturer who advertises his equipment extreme (even military) to undergo stress testing that is bitter. This is apparently no longer so much about sustainable quality of the products but increasingly about the creation of short-lived lifestyle accessories
This also fits that one pin only in the most expensive and largest version of the tablet dazubekommt (64GB, with mobile internet). Retrofitting the smaller variants is not possible because the screen is not optimized for the pin.

But the TPT2 itself provides for a device of this very high price range a few incomprehensible weaknesses:
So can be found around the display considerable gaps. These are considerable dust and dirt trap and need to be cleaned from me regularly. In addition, the tablet starts now at the socket which receives the pin to creak pretty (how can a 800 unit please knarzen ???). Even the Windows Home button is not incorporated accurately. From an appropriate angle here always seems to illuminate the display by - disturbing.
And also the rubberized coating the back showing first signs of wear. At the point where you have to pull out the stylus from the Tablet, the coating is gone already and the underlying shiny plastic emerges. This place is indeed - still - very small, but the tablet is flat and only two months old. Besides, the coating should at one such point stressed more abkönnen need.

Conclusion:
With the performance of the unit I am more than satisfied. The tablet has replaced my laptop in its entirety and also provides opportunities that would never been able to afford a laptop or PC Dekstop. I have it always with you, so read the papers, writing lectures with, edit my correspondence from where ever I just am. This works perfectly thanks Win8 everything. The TPT2 casual creates a whole working day without the need of the socket - definitely a high end class that in some respects may have absolute USPs.
A big downside is the little grave, but shoddy workmanship of TPT2 and not related illusions in my eyes rearmament policy of Lenovo.
However, I can make a recommendation for those who are looking for a tablet with pen input, want to be mobile and do not want to have recourse to the bulky and little intuitive Android. Of the emerging opportunities there are at most a handful of alternatives in the tablet market, which are the TPT2 at eye level.

At the time appointed by Lenovo for the price TPT2 that decision was, however, well-considered ...
