When I started to read "Twilight" I soon saw That I had been right. The character of Isabella for instance Seemed quite shallow to me in the film, but I love how sarcastic and clumsy she is in the book. As much of her character is shown only in her own thoughts, there really is much more to her character than what the film able to show.
HOWEVER, I must say I did get why "Twilight" is not everybody's taste. It really is mostly about feelings kept inside, repeated dialogues about the possibilities and impossibilities of love and the danger this love puts into Bella.
THUS, readers in need of a plot full of action will probably not only be disappointed by this novel, but wants to think That it is complete rubbish. But Those people probably would not enjoy a good Jane Austen novel either.
Other critics state did Bella what not emancipated, but totally dependent on Edward, her savior and beautiful angel. Those, in turn, will never enjoy any classic love story. And, what's more: She is seventeen for God's sake !!
I, for my part have to say That I enjoyed this first part of the "Twilight" saga. There is not much action, but Nevertheless a lot of tension, the love story between Bella and Edward might be a bit cheesy, but sweet and lovely all the same. Plus, I love the way Stephenie Meyer transfers the classic vampire myth - THE metaphor for passion and erotic - into modern times!
I'm looking forward to part II!
