Well, in theory it works so well, practically some limitations have shown that make the dock for me unusable:
1. The dock on USB-connected CD / DVD / BD drive (LG BP40NS20) logs off regularly, if I want to read a CD via iTunes. I connect the drive as usual directly to the MBP, so it works perfectly. This suggests that the USB ports of the dock can not provide the required drive from 1.6A. On the Belkin site no technical data is unfortunately found in this regard. The "Specifications" link refers only to two press articles. In the FAQ product is found for the following message: ". The charging of iPads or other tablets is not possible with this unit" An iPad requires far as I know about 2 A charging current. I also wonder what is this huge need for the operation of the dock adapter actually good, which provides nameplate least 6A current at 12V !? They are at least 72 watts of output power. As should be loose with each 2A at 5V supplied 3 USB ports.
Answer: Most likely, the power is only needed to warm up the dock. It is, even if only display and Wacom tablet are connected, at least lukewarm.
2. Audio output by Audacity on the headphone jack of the Dock jerky.
3. recordings with the connected via USB Audio Adapter (Edirol UA-1EX), I for digitizing my vinyl collection are used, disturbed by a relatively strong hum (ground loop). Although all devices (MBP, Dock, monitor, hi-fi system, network devices, ..) hanging on the same wall outlet, the hum does not disappear. I connect the audio adapter as usual on MBP directly, the signal is free from interference (even using different outlets).
4. I had the hope of being able to do without adapter to the USB Audio. But the Belkin Dock brings only a headphone output and a micro input with how the MBP itself. A stereo line-in would have been a useful addition.
All in all, I feel the EUR 300 for this device as grossly overpriced, especially since it does not completely convincing. That the USB 3.0 ports are also not bring the full speed and FireWire is throttled, is mentioned in various press articles. Then rather a USB hub for 30 EUR and with the limitations of more than a cable connection live.
One last comment on the look of the case: Visually see the aluminum finish of nice. Haptic it resembles the fine side of a sapphire nail file. And handy dock is not. The dock could be built smaller and definitely as the power supply, which not so fit in size, color and shape to other aluminum / Apple Chic. It is black and has exactly the form in which it abound as classic notebook power supply is used.
Oh yes, the purchase of a Thunderbolt cable naturally annoys me also. Not included that this cable in the price range of the device is to me absolutely incomprehensible. Power but the dock without this cable also makes no sense.
