If you care about quality then you think about exchange after the 17-85mm kit lens. Just landscapes gain by very good optical properties, brilliance, contrast and sharpness. And, amazingly, is then also a zoom 40mm usually sufficient. But architectural photography are a strength this objective. For the ambitious photographer and a classic in some even a 'Always plan'.
A flower-shaped lens hood EW-83E and leather pouch LP1319 comes with. The lens changes the outer length not when zooming and the filter thread does not rotate (which makes possible a Polfiltereinsatz). Water and dust resistant, it is, however, only if in the lens nor a filter (of any) is recognized as the inner tube (front unprotected) slightly forward or backward moves during zooming. So no pure inner zoom.
It weighs about 475g and has a length of about 97mm. The smallest aperture is 22. The minimum focusing distance is 28cm. The filter diameter is 77mm.
The lens is equipped with three aspherical lenses, as you can see above the Amazon text detail minimizes spherical aberration. A Super-UD glass lens also still minimizes chromatic aberrations that often lead to blurring. Both types of lenses are used simultaneously only in high-quality lenses.
Last but not least is to be called the Ring USM (autofocus ultrasonic motor) which is not only the quietest of all ultrasonic motors, but also the fastest of all, so that they focus more quickly than can be a snap of the fingers ;-) addition, they can in this type also focusing on engine manually at any time.
The maximum aperture of f: 4.0 is only on cloudy days or in dark interiors of disadvantage. Then the light intensity must be either purchased by the 16-35 or man takes up a monopod or even a tripod back.
For me it is my "Always top lens" Only if I have enough money superseded by the 16-35 ...
All others have the previous reviews mentioned ready.
Have fun with the excellent EF 17-40mm 1: 4L USM!
