Anyway: At least in the last days and months, I could not help every now and then to occupy myself with the one or formula if the problem required this. Nevertheless, it still lacks me to basics, where my interest in mathematics and related issues, however, is grown.
Against this background, I was initially a little skeptical when I came across the 260-page English-language book in the O'Reilly "Good Math" by Mark Chu-Carroll.
Alone: My skepticism was unfounded. Chu-Carroll explained in 27 chapters various aspects of mathematics. The first three parts (Chapters 1 to 11) deal inter alia with the numbers (natural and irrational numbers. The spelling of this, the zero, the golden section and fractions).
The focus of Section 4 are various aspects of logic. It continues with quantities and areas, while in the last section, entitled ".Mechanical Mathematics" for example, based on the Turing machine also basics of programming are described.
The book is clearly structured, well written and even entertaining. Formulas are the exception, individual chapters can be read in isolation and understood.
My conclusion: mathematicians find in this book certainly is not much news, for those interested, and newcomers like me but has "Good Math" a good introduction to the topic, makes you hungry for more.
