Melancholy permanent!

Anathema are the masters of melancholic alternative rock. , Founded in 1990 as a doom metal band, initially under the name of Pagan Angel she went through one of the most amazing transformations in rock history. Already on their early recordings flowed elements of Gothic (eg female vocal parts) and psychedelic rock (especially Pink Floyd) in their music a, coupled with the singing of the former singer Darren White, whose style largely that of a Death Metal -Shouters corresponded. After White left the band in 1995 took over rhythm guitarist Vincent Cavenagh his part, what should turn out to be very happy. Although it was the song on the first appeared in this constellation album, The Silent Enigma 1995, still strongly influenced by Death Metal, interspersed with female parts and chant à la Celtic Frost, but was combined homogeneous lot with the total of more melodic now clearly Music. A development that should accelerate Anathema on their next album Eternity with a surprisingly significant step yet. Death Metal vocals and Doom riffs were now passé, catchy alternative riffs, -Drum- and -Bass lines, the unmistakable Floyd touch and spherical, melancholic harmonies and melodies gained the upper hand. An amazing experience, especially when you hear it in direct comparison, though not equally successful in all respects.
