Rock Art (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"On a Storyteller's Night" and "Wings of Heaven" were the highlights in the work of the English quintet. In between was the excellent "Vigilante", then it went down slowly. After the hopeful "Sleepwalking" finally appeared this rather collagenhaft- zerwürfelte CD. After the subsequent tour, the band broke up. Guitarist / songwriter Tony Clarkin and exceptional vocalist Bob Catley made with their "Hard Rain" - project on, after a few years but then came the inevitable Magnum reunion with "Breath of Life" and "Brand New Morning".
"Rock Art" is, so to speak, the last sign of life on the brink of. And unfortunately, you have to say that it sounds so. The perfect sound seems a bit energized, the songwriting is not as captivating as usual. Somehow the disc seems a bit dull and cramped designed on the drawing board and not excited the listener. The ideas seem half-baked and not quite fit together.
A few strong songs there are: "Back in Your Arms" is a great ballad, "Just This Side of Heaven" rocks thoroughly. In general, the guitars are amazingly dominant and confuse the listener sometimes with mismatched metal riffs ("Hard Hearted Woman", "Tell Tale Eyes"). The reggae tour "Rock Heavy" could have also be saved.
Conclusion: Perhaps the weakest plate this great band. Buy some prefer "Wings of Heaven" and "On A Storyteller's Night".
