Approximately the size of a matchbox gives these mini tuner with wireless transmitter and an internal battery which is charged via the included Micro-USB cable (about 140 cm). With a fully charged battery to the operating time about 3 - $ 4 hours but I have not yet tested. For longer periods of operation, the tuner can, of course, be operated on a USB power adapter or a USB battery pack.
The installation - with me on a iPad3 - was pretty easy. First, download the appropriate app from Elgato and in the "Settings" of the tablet to select the Wi-Fi connection that EyeTV W. Search of regional DVB-T channels will start automatically - but I have chosen equal to the supplied antenna with magnetic base and 2m connection cable, because with us Freeview is not particularly strong receivable. In receiving strong regions also included mini-telescopic aerial may be enough right on the tuner.
The Settings menu the station order can be changed - just slide the transmitter with your finger to the desired location. Also, various channel lists are created and assigned to specific locations. This is for example useful when traveling or on vacation, if you want to create new channel lists for other regions, and remain existing (eg place of residence).
In addition, the software also allows time-shifted watching TV - with a time-shift buffer up to 2GB (more than 70 minutes) can be selected. Broadcasts can also be recorded which are then stored in a separate film archive. Next there is a program overview for all received transmitter - which makes dispensable basically a TV program magazine. And do not forget: Teletext course there.
In the Program Overview "live television" all stations are displayed with an indication of the currently ongoing and broadcasts directly below.
Especially handy is of course the connection via Wi-Fi, which however is not running over a possibly existing wireless router, but only as a direct connection between the EyeTV W and the tablet (or smartphone). Thus, the receiver and the antenna can be positioned at a station with a strong place and you can move around freely in the room with the Tablet. This works through the wall - alledings the distance should not be too large.
With about 75 of these mini tuner is certainly not a "bargain", but offers comfortable facilities, at any location "wirelessly" watch TV, also a time lag - or pre-recorded programs from your own film library to watch.
