Much printer for the money

Canon Pixma MG5350 multifunction device with Wi-Fi + Apple Air Print incl. USB cable & 5 youprint cartridges (scanners, copiers, printers, USB 2.0) (original cartridges specifically not included) (Electronics)

Customer Review

As can be seen in the text of the offer the original cartridges for this printer have been removed (and probably resold for big money) and replaced with 5 alternative cartridges youprint. Since I anyway not before had me later to buy original cartridges (this one is so poor) and I still have 20 saved at the time of my order over the Amazon price of original cartridges, this offer came to me quite right. When writing this review, the price difference is however only 5, because I'd probably grab even to the original.

Furnishings:
After unpacking the printer you have to pull a lot of films. The youprint cartridges could be used as normal and have been detected directly. The color cartridges were only about half full and correspondingly quickly empty. The same problem one reads but also of the original cartridges that are not completely filled at delivery with the printer. By contrast, two black cartridges were filled to the brim. The printer is not connected with me via USB cable to a computer but integrated via WLAN to the network, so that every computer and my smartphone can access it. Even my PS3 I have integrated and can print on it (which I, however, do not really need). To set up you have to enter the WLAN key. If you understand the menu once that's done too fast. The software and drivers must still on the computers via CD-ROM (it is a CD for Windows and one for Mac at) be installed.

Print:

The print result to be proud of and is for private use certainly fast enough. What can interfere with the cleaning operations, which are very time-consuming, especially if times a day did not print or the plug has been pulled (then seems to forget the printer when the last time was cleaned). So better not constantly draw power from the device, the process may take several minutes and costs certainly a lot of ink. The power consumption keeps within limits (if off 0.4 watts per data sheet and 2.9 watts in standby mode while the WLAN).
Very handy is the built-in duplex printing, always thought that there would be only in very expensive equipment. However, the ink in normal 80g paper shines through strongly. Whether it's the youprint ink because they might be too thin and the result with the original ink would be better, of course I can not say. The function is therefore to be used only for private use in this paper to save paper. Important documents so I would certainly not print that simply looks too tatty. If I tested the thing already looks 100g paper but very different. Very high-quality results in duplex printing!

I have some photos printed on photo paper 10x15 Pelikan (240g, about 10 cents each without the ink). The quality of the photos is as far as I can judge well. There are also much more expensive Canon paper, which certainly improved the quality. If you have several photos to get a photo lab but effective way and certainly gets even better photos. But at times quick to print a photo that is to use genuine. One can not only photos on the PC but also print directly from the camera connected via USB port (have a Canon camera because of course everything runs smoothly) or you put the SD card into the card reader of the printer. On the card reader may incidentally be accessed by all computers in the network. Since the printer on the Internet you can also depend from online photo albums (Google Picasa or Canon Image Gateway) Print. Also you can find some documents (such as a weekly work schedule or note paper, etc.) get directly from the printer and print.
The printing of dedicated CD's / DVD's with the enclosed CD-holder works also excellent.

I have tested the Canon app for Android smartphones. It can be used the photos you snapped at mobile print quickly. Also documents on the app as jpg or pdf gecannt can be, so that you have right in this mobile phone. More Print the pictures but is not, which is a shame. The other printer manufacturers have a better solution, with which you can also print texts from your mobile device. Google Cloud Print is unfortunately not supported, it is Apple enthusiasts will be pleased about AirPrint.
Hint to still texts to print from Android: turn a PC on the network and open the Google Chrome browser and set up there Google Cloud Print. Then you can print very well on a corresponding app (eg "Cloud Print"). Then only works when the computer also and the Chrome browser is started.

Scan / copy:
works perfectly. Pictures appear in my opinion, however, quite pale, for texts, it is sufficient but thick. One has the option of choosing whether to send scanned documents to a PC on the network or stored on an infected USB stick. Not even each sheet is stored individually: If you scan multiple pages of a document can be saved in a single PDF document - very convenient!
On the downside, the lid of the scanner must be closed during the scanning process, from thicker books can therefore unfortunately not copy (!! Not quite right below addendum dated 18.05.2013 !!)

Costs:
The first few days I did some photos printed on (perhaps 30-40 pieces) and a few other color printouts. I got empty within three days, the three (half-full) color cartridges. If you buy now a set of original cartridges for 40-50 which is of course a very expensive business and you consider carefully whether it really needs to be a color printout. That's why I've been looking for an alternative cartridges. The beigelgten youprint cartridges cost here at Amazon 15. I have dared even cheaper cartridges to buy namely Logic-Seek. 20 cartridges (ie 4 complete sets) cost 23 here, so do not make a complete set of 6 cartridges with chip. So you can sometimes print in color with a clear conscience. So far, I could not detect any differences in quality.

Conclusion:
For those who need a good Allrounddrucker- / scanner / copier and can do without things like an integrated fax machine or feed scanner, an amazing device. Priced you will probably just have fun with the device when you buy alternative cartridges. How long the machine stops and how the printing costs will develop over the months with me, I can not say at this point, of course.
Whether one takes to this offer with the youprint-alternative cartridges or a few euros more invested for the printer with original cartridges, everyone must decide for themselves, do not know whether the original cartridges provide better results still or hold any longer. I would make them dependent on the amount of savings. Also one can certainly see this business model of distributors also critical when you read the reviews Orignial Canon ink here on Amazon. It is clear, that we commercialized many negotiators this only half-full cartridges in retail packaging at full price.

Addendum (05/18/2013):

1) After a few months with this printer, I am the way, still very satisfied. At my relatively small print volume, the 20-Logic Seek cartridges are still not all used up, so I'll buy me back. When inserting a sheet but necessarily ready put the toilet paper, sometimes the cartridges are quite full and it can drip !! This is very bad stains !!

2) What is very annoying that the printer only prints when really all (!) Cartridges are filled. Even if you just want black and white printing, I had to change color cartridges that have become empty alone by the cleaning operations.

3) The point I mentioned that from thicker books nothing can be copied is not quite right. The cover hinges can be pulled out a few cm. So can be, albeit somewhat tricky copy / scan.

4) The many criticized long on time, I must also once again a negative highlight. Just quickly copy a page, there may take a few shake to the printer is ready. If you're lucky and the last cleaning was not long zurücke, but it can also happen very quickly.
