The Outsider (Audio CD)

Customer Review

With 'The Outsider' proves DJ Shadow one more time, that it can be put into any category. After an almost obligatory intro the album 'This Time', a really nice, soulful track in the style of the 70s begins. Right after that, you get four Raptracks the ears popped, where slip every fan of the 'I-do-to-thickness-Hose' rap group with joy the baggy pants in the back of the knees. After a short but beautiful to listening guitar piece titled 'Broken Levee Blues', followed by hyper-fast and quite funky 'Artefact'. Thereafter begins 'The Outsider' with Shadow-atypical, but beautiful 'Backstage Girl' order to get depth. Of particular note here include 'Erase you', a piece which stylistically well a track on 'The Private Press' could have been and 'What have I done', which excites through the beautiful voice of Christina Carter to dream. Unfortunately, the album sounds with three other typical rap tracks from which you now not really be described as particularly innovative
can.

Difficult thing, this album! As a die-hard fan, I can not hide my disappointment, unfortunately. Due to the time that has passed since 'The Private Press' expectations were high. A further development on a musical level is certainly recognizable, but at least in the many 'rap songs' on the album in terms not my taste. Somehow I am missing the pieces in the style of eg 'Midnight in a Perfect World' or 'What does your soul look like'. Anyway. Definitely not for people, which is another 'Entroducing' or 'The Private Press' expect and I must unfortunately connect with regard to the many guest rappers the previous reviewers, this was clearly too much. When listening to 'The Outsider' I have definitely often pressing the SKIP button, because unlike Shadow's previous albums I have to get out of here looking for the 'pearls'.
