We are in 1998, when Max Cavalera will make clear to us that Soulfly is not to sound like a second Sepultura, he wants to or let it sound so nciht.
Max played in Soulfly exactly from what he would probably not be able to continue with Sepultura: A mixture of bouncers metal, hardcore and a lot of world music influences, as already indicated to the (rather poor) Output Roots.
"3" or "Aum" but went almost the new Sepultura track, especially since the songs to more than 80% were pure hardcore Basher.
From Prophecy albums thrashy, minimal references were Direction Seputlura were on Prophecy, on The Dark Ages could already make some places more clearly established.
Now there is the of Max as "uncompromising" and metallastigste stamped album of the band's history.
The beginning is probably only times unfamiliar, especially at the beginning quite a while just Crustcore songs have been played, the more surprised that Bloodfire War Hate is a pure Thrasher, one would no longer Sepultura zutrtauen been around for over ten years, supplemented with David Vincent (Morbid Angel) bestial howling organ. Full on the bell, full marks, what a "cost".
Unleash many will already be known, especially since he has been left as the first on people's. This song is 100% Soulfly and everyone would have expected in the first position, the song is still thrash-heavy as Prophecy or Babylon. A World Music Part fans in between, the end is again turned up properly.
Initially seen as an average, the song fits well into the album and sounds in the long version even better.
Now all hell breaks loose, what Max Cavalera wrote here is phenomenal. Comparisons with Cavalera Conspiracy are completely unaangebracht, especially since the Reunions album has failed considerably more primitive and a little more dedicated to the thrash-punk. As a second thought get one here (and anything but wrong) Sepultura to mind. But Diesaml without Chaos AD influences, but tough in Richting Beneath The Remains and Arise. At first eavesdropper sounds all just afterSepultura, through the skilful used, but very rare world music influences (also "Dub" you can hear!) Reveals itself only after the second or third time more than clear that it here more than clearly identifiable as Soulfly.
In addition, Max accomplishes here the artwork, much more brutal Cavalera Conspiracy or even to sound the distillates Sepultura works, even the drumming of Joe Nunez convinced more than that of Iggor Cavalera.
Biggest improvement compared to the rather average previous work: not a single filler, but eleven standing for themselves songs.
At the end must not of course the obligatory instrumental Soulfly (VI) are missing, but which takes here much rocking trains, which I personally purely runs better.
The album is, after a moment's reflection, on a par with Prophecy, seen purely subjective of course.
If Max carries on at that level and again incorporates more World Music (pronounced sounds more afterSoulfly), the maximum number of points could be there the next time.
Schade is really just that the song "Rough" the song "Spit" but resembles very strong ...
But the biggest surprise is rather out of Roadrunner Records: The album will be released at the same time in a beautiful digipack with additional DVD (Inner Spirit video) and a good, but unfortunately relatively old gig from Poland (2005). The package also provides an expanded artwork.
The album will polarize in any case, but it is worth it to listen more than once, the expected 100% Sepultura copy it has not become, and that seems to be also been the target.
