This book is written by a doctor Xavier Maniguet with practical hostile environments thwarts the habits of the sedentary man to explain why our current habits would be harmful in a survival situation.
And you will see you will learn good good. ^^
For whom?
Even if the work is public, I doubt it suits a lambda public without medical knowledge. (Paramedics, pharmacists and doctors find easy reading share their knowledge in physiology, biology, anatomy ...): many notions are certainly simplified but a person who had never heard of adrenaline, ACTH , etc ...
get bored quickly.
The book of 4 cm thick (and yes, I measured lol) has 512 pages and has been writing for the first time in 1988. It emerged this year supplemented ...
Colorless, with some drawings / scribbles without actual formatting pages ... the book is boring at first.
(That's what I told myself in for the first time seeing him: "I will miss")
And this is probably that one is wrong.
The narration is splendid. For a doctor (well, a healthcare professional), I find it rather remarkable to know both write and romanticize (it's not at all give the World: so it deserves to be told).
Thus, each part consists of scientific notions of of first aid, and also and especially anecdotes to do or not to repeat.
What is remarkable is that the author manages as I have rarely had the opportunity to see, to scare us or laugh at times when we do not expect it.
Indeed, the work being scientific, it should remain impersonal and didactic.
While ultimately it is certainly impersonal but occasionally the author adds his two cents ... and it's pretty funny.
So you'll have a historical overview of survival in the World for The Raft of the Medusa to today ... (almost as many stories, some of which are recent, however are not described as such Truman Everts who remained 37 days in Yellowstone without food, luggage and in thick fog in 1870. (reference: The Guide du Routard "West Parks nationnaux American" ed 2009)
Why the modern and sedentary city should read this book?
* It prepares a stay on holiday (after reading the book, you'll never want go in Guyana and Australia;))
* If he wishes to follow a course of survival (in recent years very fashionable, and employed by companies to test their fighting cadres sup, these courses are very popular and attract many tourists every year ... a little turn on the internet will bring you the same honeymoon testimony of young women who tested the concept - reading and rereading -)

Why did I read? let's see ... if one day I come to the end of my physiotherapy studies, which seems rather a bad start ... I love to go for a few months solo in rock ... a nice dream everyone to recommend me to do (for a bunch of reasons) ... interesting to me to martial arts since I was a kid (without practice) it is natural that I wanted to do internships survival (without making a single) and therefore, the question "how to get along if you are alone and in danger?" Of course, I doubt that in a situation of danger, I am capable of such feats as described in the book ... Too coward for that, however, theoretical knowledge can only help broaden their horizons and see things in everyday life in a different way (for example, now every time I see a spider, I avoid giving them to feed my cat ^^ or take them with your fingers as before ... instead of which, I make macro photos before exterminate ^^ lol)

* Discount if you buy equipment! (The book presents a comprehensive list of color material. It's interesting but insufficient in that it does not know a minimum, however, you learn a few tricks, like prefer a colt 45 for a woman to decrease the decline in most calibers ... important and therefore, a 9mm will never be strong enough to kill a bear ... also a woman has no chance to get away with a bear and a colt 45. This is the deduction ^^
* If it is expected to learn in astronomy, orientation ... (again, nothing beats a technical book!)
The great things to remember after reading the book
_ A sedentary individual must regularly practice a sport but always associate an endurance sport and a contact sport.
weight lifting and jogging are very poorly levied by the author (I fully agree with this conviction even though I practiced myself: as they say "do as I say, not what I do ^^)
_ Meals should always be fragmented into 5 portions and not 2 like we're used to in France (dinner, breakfast) and therefore, the author recalls the importance of breakfast
_ Important if we share many prefer to take a person who knows it in several areas that a specialized person who would have no other skills. As a physiotherapist not knowing what strapper would have no interest in leaving group expedition. ^^
_ The importance of drinking BEFORE you feel thirsty! Because it is already in the body a warning signal.
_ A concept to remember: 1 mark = insect, two = arraignée two drag + = snake ^^
_ Namely: all spiders are poisonous few exceptions, however, few of them are deadly.
_ Remember to: a poisonous animal - except water - generally preferred inject venom if the prey is eatable. So even if a venom could kill a man legion, a man bitten by this animal does not necessarily die, because man is not edible for the animal in question (too big) ...
However, it is always prudent to have anti venoms syringes. Which joined Alain E. in "Nature America" that précaunise too ^^ (great photos!)
