New wind in old sailing

As a big fan of Assassin's Creed, it has of course me, like many others, pleased that this year is not just a next-gen titles, but also one of the old consoles has appeared and in addition also still a New Perspective. Yes in the "Become a Templar" story are the ghosts, I for my part have to say that I liked the idea very well and continue to like, however. For purely an imitation version of the Old gene I would have found it a pity if Ubisoft and already thinks to publish one year but two games the same row, then why not something new venture. In my review I'm going to the game often with the previous Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag compare. Also, I have divided the report into four parts, which I have omitted story spoilers at all costs. My sub-headings are:

- The characters and the story
- The game world
- Conclusion
In addition, I am going to touch on the contents of the Collector's Edition. But now ...

... The game itself:

At the start of Assassin's Creed Rogue falls on right away, it is absolutely the same as in the previous Black Flag. The Start menu and in the further the entire engine of the game is pure takeover of the successful predecessor. Was expressed as well in numerous test reports also think I that this acquisition does not have to be bad, and this is not - in spite of everything, it forms a small, fine bitter taste in the sweetness of other game. From collecting Animusfragmente over chests to the Sea Shanties everything is represented but lacked (me at least) to make the still existing in Black Flag appeal to even the smallest island to hold various above items to collect. Even further as the climbing and fighting system as well as the naval battles have hardly not changed and is expected to also most therefore be known. What is new is the possibility to take in the entire game world again financing of buildings before and thus increase the incoming content à la Brotherhood and also of collecting fun was enhanced in Rogue a Deut.

The characters and the story (without spoilers):

In addition to the base remained the same, the game offers a new re .. eh ... heroes, if you want to call it that, the Templars Shay Patrick Cormac. I personally (and makes) playing a lot of fun with him. His behavior is well understood in most cases, and it did not bother me in any way, that he is an enemy assassins and Templars. The conflict between the Credo and the Order are beautifully presented and the binding to the individual (partly historical) people is convincing, though not quite as much as in Black Flag. A notable example is Shay in the original soundtrack with his Irish accent and thus mitschwingendem charm. Overall, I advise anyone who is the English language largely powerful to enjoy the game in the original.
One thing that I, as a historian, however, found little pity was that the framework for action in the form of the 7 Years War a little too faded into the background and is still very much overshadowed by the on Shay focused story, but maybe I'm too easy just a little too much spoiled by predecessors.

The game world:

Like all Assassin's Creed games also sets Rogue back on a large game world, which is divided into three areas, two of which are overseas territories (River Valley and North Atlantic) and one that invites to explore on foot (New York). On this point, so Rogue is a mix of Black Flag and games such as AC 2 and 3. The world is thus not utterly seamless explorable as was the case in Black Flag but has sub-regions which are connected to one another via quick trip. That bothers though only slightly since the individual areas are beautifully designed and a large area and offer plenty to do collect such as hunting or preserving one or the other Templars before Assassin attacks again. Really liked me, especially the vast extent of the islands and fishing villages that can be reached by boat in the Atlantic and in the River Valley. In principle they are similar, although those from Black Flag, but they are a lot bigger, which means that almost the entire map (and yes I mean really, the entire card) to enter / may be driven. This raises in my opinion also the somewhat smaller game world (do not misunderstand, the game world is huge as always).
What New York As I was more than pleasantly surprised. My incoming fears it were a copy of the third part was gone quickly. New York has been completely renewed and embellished, and only remembers a few places on the rather dreary image of AC3. It makes you feel good through the streets, or even on the streets to wander, to renovate the building and to take Assassin headquarters apart. At this point I would also like to comment briefly on the "new" enemy types, the Assassins. These are less annoying than entertaining and they make between nice for a change, even if they look less like dangerous assassins who they are but .. well as civilians in Brown.

Conclusion:

I hereby want then slowly come to an end. Of course, can be for Rogue as to every felicitous OpenWorld title still tons more to say but this is supposed to but everyone to experience for yourself and enjoy.
In short Assassin's Creed Roge receives from me 4 stars because it is a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting game, which offers many options and variety - everything you expect from a game in the series just expected. One star deduction there for being too strong a copy of the previous design and a lack of multiplayer.
Although AC Rogue may not a perfect game (but that's that already) and quite getting used with regard to the story, but it is quite a successful game and also a successful Assassin's Creed title and therefore also receives a very strong buy recommendation.

Info for Collector's Edition: The game is set in the standard shell, which is in an extra package (see Figure Amazon) to be found. The packaging is made of cardboard and kept relatively simple. Additionally included is an art book, which is quite nice, but not quite as classy acts like the Black Flag or AC3. Great though is the soundtrack of ascends here with 30 titles, which is a clear improvement over the predecessor. There are also three lithographs which are also making a good impression and to find in a nice Templar envelope. Among the in-game bonus content, I can not say anything because I have so far not yet found the time to dispute this - AC Rogue has just too much to discover;)
