Nexus S - One S

HTC One S Smartphone (10.9 cm (4.3 inches) AMOLED touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera, Android OS) (Electronics)

Customer Review

I switched from a Nexus S the One S. Bottom line, I am very satisfied. Sense 4 is an attempt to present a unified interface to the core applications. I like quite well, everything looks clear and chic, yet there are in each app a wealth of features.

The One S I bought especially because it's very convenient to take short videos with the phone. And the Nexus S has a miserable quality. With the One S, the video is no longer seen only on the phone great, but also on the large screen TV. In fact, they are better than my (older) Full HD video camera, especially since the only interlaced video makes the One S and 1080P.

The second major reason was the processor speed. The Nexus S is already sometimes lame right. In particular reoccurring stuttering in the operation and the animations have annoyed me. When it was updated to ICS, this has been improved dramatically, especially the browser, but it felt always lame.

According to various benchmarks and many reviews the One S with the fastest available Android, is telephone. Unfortunately, it's not that stuttering in the operation have disappeared completely. They are still, although significantly less than the Nexus S. The phone unfortunately still do not feel in any case in such a way as it would animate the surface effortlessly, but it gives the impression as if it were mostly just so plonk, and sometimes still bucking. We also have an iPad 2 and it feels just like that, as if the animation of the surface a complete side issue, which you have to pay any attention itself and the processor of the iPad also.

Nevertheless, the One S is in some respects much more fixed than the Nexus S. Especially when launching apps on the falls, or when switching between screens. For example, while the Nexus S already lodged several seconds pause when I launched Pulse, it's because the One S as well as delay. Or when I click on an unread mail in Kaiten, passed on the Nexus S a short but disturbing moment, on the One S takes place only transition animation, but no additional pause.

So the One S is fixed, but comments like "at last Android feels as smooth as on iOS" are more hype. Mostly yes, but the remaining jerkiness make up the difference. (I would not want Apart from iPhone, for liquid operation is not all.)

A few points with which I had not previously calculated:

* Wi-Fi at the One S is to classes faster than the Nexus S. Located next to the router I had to write on the phone Nexus S with 500 KiB / s, the One S, it was 7 MiB / s or more. I also have in the apartment nearly all wireless bar where it was when Nexus only in the room with the router the case.
* 3G I always disable the Nexus S ("Use only 2G networks"), because it a) was not reliable and b) has sucked the battery. When One S I can not notice any problems.
* Anyway surprised me the battery performance. I thought it would be about the same level as the Nexus S, but the battery lasts 30% longer felt, although I intensively use the One S, where it's just new.
* The layout of the ports and buttons is the Nexus S (or Galaxy Nexus) much better. When One S it corresponds partly to iPhone, so headphones and standby button on top. At Nexus S the headphone jack is below, so you can it in your pocket and stuck it holds then right rum in his hand, when pulling out it. The USB socket is the One S left, and I still can not imagine how it should look, if you want to use the phone to navigate the car and at the same time invite me. At most, when it mounted transversely, but I do quite like more of the route ahead.
* No problems with the paint with the black version.
* Yes, the cover may become jammed and then closes wrong when you insert the SIM, but open and just continue fumble until all hooks snap into place. The cover closes definitely make close contact.
* The display's rather like the Nexus S. So no HD and Pentile, but I think it's OK. Contrast and colors are great. The sharpness enough for me. I guess, on battery power less resolution has a positive effect.
* With display brightness automatically to the One S is always much lighter than the Nexus. The was consistently too dark after the last update. Incidentally, I found crazy setting. The brightness should generally always set automatically, and should instead be quasi can set a "factor" which affects the automatic control. (Not surprisingly, it works the same way on the iPad.) But as Android, this feature just the way implemented, I think it's worth mentioning that the One S much better adjusts the optimal brightness as the Nexus S.
* The One S is incredibly comfortable to hold. Not only because it is extremely flat and rough / rough. But also because of the angle of the lateral edges. Brilliant.
