I put the stick on my iMac with Snow Leopard combined with Elgato EyeTV Sat on a digital one bowl. The biggest annoyance on the stick at all, this is the drive not being able to export 5.1 soundtracks. This can not adjust to a change in the presets. Whatever is set, the drive always produces a downmix to 2 channel stereo. If you open the stored contrast EyeTV File example with HandBrake, so may be there all embedded soundtracks select the 5.1 track. The same applies to DVD's, also here always takes place with the Stick a downsampling on 2-channel stereo. In order for the drive for HD footage with 5.1 audio is not compatible. The encoding speed, however, is good, on my iMac C2D 3.06 is the acceleration factor at about 4, the encoder quality is acceptable with very good raw material to good, with average grades rather poor. Here are software encoders such as the already repeatedly mentioned in HandBrake clearly better. My conclusion: Quick is the stick, qualitatively there are better alternatives in the software sector and the mentioned 5.1 problems make the stick unsuitable for me. I'm going for quality Kodieraktionen still be expected overnight the iMac and insert the stick only when encoding for iPhone, a slideshow via iPhoto or similar. One issue that can save you need ...
UPDATE 02/07/2010: About a Mac forum I just got a clue how to get to the 5.1 audio when exporting. EyeTV puts the recordings on the hard disk in the package files that contain, among other things, the recording MPG. If you open this package with the Finder and Subtracting the MPG file it contains onto the program window of the Turbo.264 software can be there the desired audio track and choose Export. The export file will contain both 2-channel stereo in AAC as well as 5.1 in AC3. When playing via iTunes or AppleTV then the desired audio track can be selected. About the present in the EyeTV software export function only 2-channel AAC can, however, in spite of all export settings. Elgato love people, what do you mean so complicated? Too bad also that has not been answered, a corresponding request for support from Elgato, but only a helpful man could help out in a forum.
