JOperation this box for 1 week with 3 discs on my Mac Mini USB 3.
Installation is simple, the housing properly mounted disks and transfer rates are very good.
Alas, this case has two big weaknesses that make me laurais returned if I had found an alternative as cheap for my records: its noise and its management of the standby.
The sound:
The housing is very noisy. Even with the fan in its lowest mode, it is widely noisier than my 3 drives when they were in separate housings. Some reviewers on the site dAmazon UK breathability criticize the fact that the housing is non-existent (HDDs heat) and offer as an alternative to leave the valve open (tested: the volume of noise increases drastically) or drill holes in the valve.
Standby:
Several possible scenarios depending on the sync button setting. I have not found an optimal configuration.
- Mode off: The housing must be turned on and off manually. He did not go to sleep when my Mac goes to sleep.
- Blue mode: Unusable because when my Mac goes to sleep, the box turns off and séteignent hard drives without being ejected properly.
- Orange mode: Unusable because when I look at a video from the housing of a disk, I suffered a freeze 5 seconds every 3 minutes (drive recovery for buffering after the video).
Note:
The Raidsonic Media matches quickly. They Mount proposed new firmware to solve the sleep problem. I installed it, but I have not seen improvements.
I would not recommend this case to use in a quiet environment.
