Was the debut album of "Kidz ..." yet published on the label Rawkus, it has changed for the successor to Duck Down. Was the first album yet from 90ies oriented Boom Bap sound and Conscious texts dominated with huge show Figer, the duo is on his second LP much more versatile. From Neo Boom Bap à la 9th Wonder on reduced, modern synth beats, like on "Driving Down The Block" to R'n'B droning and pop numbers and more. The MC Naledge skill technically really is very attractive, with the exception of the opener "Blackout" one or more MCs / singers are featured throughout. Sometimes there are as well high-profile guests, like Guilty Simpson, Buckshot, Sean Price and Camp Lo on the CD.
I must honestly say, the first album I was actually pretty good, "The In Crowd" disappointed me a bit: There are indeed quite strong tracks like "Mr. Alldatshit" or "The Pledge" with Buckshot and Sean Price, some tracks are me but honestly too shallow and cheesy. The "Kidz ..." squint with songs such as "Lucifer's Joyride" and "Love Hangover" in which Estelle nor may mitsäuseln, clearly a little too much in the direction of MTV and mainstream. Too bad, because this change of image from honest Backpack rap to mass compatibility leaves then but a little stale aftertaste.
