When you turn off the notebook hard drive is reliably switched off with. Unfortunately, there is in the current models NO shutoff more (see Fantec forum)!
I have bought for my very good experiences with my body at Lipando five DB ALU3e with built 2TB drive for the company (see my review here). We backup jobs running when you shut down the computer. If one does not want to go through about hours or the whole weekend the hard drives (we do not want, because the new plates are relatively warm), then you have to get another case. DB ALU3e are no longer suitable for automatic operation of a receiver / TV or computer / NAS.
In summary, the new series will be warmer and turns not away. Compared with external plastic housings, the warming is still at an acceptable level.
Who does not interfere with the lack of power off, get an external enclosure with universal quick connectors. Using the supplied stand, the plate can be easily operated vertically (this seems to stay cooler).
For Lipando service I wrote something already in the 2TB version.
