I have a NAS solely for backup purposes (ie my "main NAS" sometimes is backed up to this backup NAS) used. For this I'll wake it 1x per week from hibernation (WoL) to secure the data and send the NAS then back into hibernation.
This all works really great!
And as long as it is small datasets that everything is perfect.
Quite different is the thing developed when it comes to large volumes of data.
I have here, for example, an iTunes library of 4.5 TB. If I want to save these files to the NAS, make the DS413j extremely clearly as "bottleneck" noticeable! The source NAS, the data of about 100MB / s deliver (limited by Gigabit LAN). Nevertheless, I have an average of a data backup speed of about 15MB / sec! More that creates 413j simply not (to the built-plates it is not).
The backup thus lasts for several days.
This is tolerable as long as it does so only "rarely" a complete backup and "otherwise" only saves the differences.
If you play with the idea, * often * (daily?) To secure volumes of data in TB area, this NAS is not the right.
