Here's my review of a very special album:
Spectres
Full orchestral bombast and goosebumps tune the latest AVANTASIA album is heralded.
Tobias warbles a small introduction to the whole thing in an absolute catchy chorus goes. Other vocal music, great melodies and even more bombastic underline the title track. By the end yet followed by a break and the pace is choked with feeling. No better way to start an album. Great number!
The Watchmaker'S DREAM
Double bass coupled with good humor melody make the second song of the album go directly into your ears. Great polyphonic chorus and tidy pace to put a smile on your face the listener.
It must go on!
BLACK ORCHID
A driving rhythm, backed by brilliant orchestration again and a heavy metal riff open with Black Orchid one of the many pearls of the album. Deliberately used vocals of guest singer and a re incredibly memorable chorus can slowly open no longer any doubt that it could be something really big deal here. The Mystery Of Time has left already after the third piece of a palpable indelible place in my memory metal. Especially the guest vocals of Biff Byford (Saxon) have caught me in this piece. It is incredible, who now already is all aboard the flagship AVANTASIA.
WHERE CLOCK HANDS FREEZE
Goosebumps Orchestra flows into a drum and lead guitar thunderstorms. AVANTASIA connoisseurs know right away that only the voice of God all vocals, Michael Kiske, may follow. No other voice suits this fast, melodic numbers only nearly as good as that of Michael. I am overjoyed that it represents an integral part of AVANTASIA works. I can now hardly wait to see him again live with Tobi on stage. For me, the catchiest on the album number with a chorus for eternity.
Sleepwalking
Here comes the first tearjerker of The Mystery Of Time. Together with Sunny Yang Tobias Sammet delivers this tranquil number. Why this song was chosen as the lead single and even for a video shoot, can not open up so pretty to me. The song is not really bad, but simply too flat for me. In continuous listening to The Mystery of Time, this is the song I always happy to press time.
SAVIOR IN THE CLOCKWORK
With 10:40 minutes playing time now comes the longest song on the album. After a short intro is neatly turned up the speed here. Double-bass thunder and high-speed guitars instantly know how to please. With the first song tones it slows again and the guest singers may let off steam in the verse properly. The chorus will then brisk and Tobi accepts the regiment. Again super melodies (where ever Tobi only all these ideas?) And good mood feeling gets back wide. By the end yet followed by a break with bluesy elements and great vocals from Saxon and shouter Tobi himself.
INVOKE THE MACHINE
Pretty Maids singer Ronnie Atkins supported here in an impressive manner Tobi in the vocals. Each Hördurchlauf the immediately catchy song ignites at me more and more. Quickie with great guitar work and a brilliant Ronnie Atkins!
WHAT'S LEFT OF ME
And also a second Liebesliedchen contained. Unlike Sleepwalking but this goes with me immediately through the ears, straight to the heart. Class candlelight number with the voice of sugar Mr. Big vocalist Eric Martin. One of the best ballads of recent works AVANTASIA.
Dweller in A DREAM
The turbo is ignited with neat melody again. And since he can not be missing. Again finished Michael Kiske with his Goldkehlchen the song! I can of this voice just can not get enough. Maybe Tobi should publish with Michi a common work only with numbers. I think they would beat all records ...
THE GREAT MYSTERY
The last song of the masterpiece fails with 10:02 minutes of playing time to book. And here something special is offered. On each album a number of this kind has so far been represented. By versatility, incredible choruses and the skilful distribution of the guest singer was one of the best pieces AVANTASIA! Here is placed in an impressive way the skill of Tobias Sammet proof. What can achieve with EDGUY and AVANTASIA this petite type, is just incredible. What is alone in this space a song, bring other songwriters on a whole album about. I prefer to express my hat off to Tobi!
This last song is the seal of approval for the probably the best album of the year!
I have to be honest, I had my doubts whether Tobi expectations at all can meet even after he had previously set the bar even at such heights. And he did it again and managed to still upped the ante a shovel!
Now only remains for me, put this album every metalheads, rockers or just people with a sense of great music to his heart.
