This book was written there five centuries. Yet in all those for whom the word Freedom still has meaning and incidentally read, the news is sorely needed. For if the rule has changed its face, the fact remains that: "Always do they find some who feel the weight of the yoke and can not stand to shake it; that never tame subjection and still can not keep to notify their natural privileges; these are readily those who, having net clairvoyant understanding and spirit, do not just look at what is before their feet; they are those who, having heads of themselves done well, yet polished by the study and knowledge. These, when freedom would be completely lost and out of the whole world, imagine and feel in their mind, and still enjoying it, and servitude is their taste for so although it dressed. " Some will find this book so valuable support ... Others who think or feel nothing there will probably be a relic of the past. Over the centuries, voluntary servitude has changed many times of shapes and faces and, of course, that the domination laccompagne like a shadow. Thus, theology that justified the hierarchical structures of the time of Boétie, sest gradually replaced political economy, as pseudoscience, such as management of human affairs. A freedom of human beings, living for the most part in lasservissement, sest substituted "freedom of contract" savançant often masked under the reassuring name of liberalism or, funnier still, of socialism. In our beautiful modernity, far from freeing us of the state, the Market sest intimately associated to it in a subtle division of tasks; to the state's sovereign functions, police repression, surveillance, advocacy haves; the Market, the scholarly organization of the dispossession of the majority in favor dune handful of mobsters to lavidité limitless. Linterpénétration between state structures at the top and managers of capital are now almost complete and some are the governments. To top it all, this is most often in a system advertised as "democratic" that unfolds this "brave new world". Only a few evil spirits notice that this democracy there was literally emptied of all substance; Quà instead of citizens remain mere spectators, ridiculously reduced to helplessness and that fills dhumiliation, we feel guilty before their lack of enthusiasm to vote blue or pink. This is to laune this reality there that it must reread La Boétie and sinterroger on our voluntary servitude.
