Nokia N97 Smartphone (QWERTY keyboard, GPS, Wi-Fi, Ovi Maps, camera with 5 MP) Black (Electronics)

Customer Review

Here's my little report for N97

First, a small sample of my "mobile history" before the N97 I had a Blackberry Storm, before an iPhone.

After less than a week working with the N97 I can now draw a small conclusion.
I get the Nokia last week by a VVL at Vodafone (in Black).
DC unpacked and happy like a scavenger. First impression: the device is smaller than in the pictures, but looks extremely elegant.

For material appearance, one can say that the plastic does not work cheap. The battery cover is matte and makes a solid impression.
The often criticized "gefrickel" when opening / closing the housing can I play only conditionally. You just have to cover
Hook one side and then to press the part. Includes clean and with no game.
The metal edging on the front looks very solid and of a piece.
The mechanism is also well made.
The camera lens opens and closes with a small resistance that you "over the back" must. The slider mechanism is just perfect.
Contrary to other statements: It is made of metal!
Again, there is a resistance, so that accidental opening is minimized.

Overall, the Finn beats very well here. The iPhone is in my opinion still a notch higher.
Lose the BlackBerry. Although he has a battery cover made of metal but it goes off much too easily and the plastic used on the front looks cheap.

Map pure - pure battery - cover on it - mobile phone.

Ding ding de de ding - * * Händeschüttel - and to the part.

The S60 interface is well known and proven. There not much to say - stop nevertheless.
The Widgets. Made really pretty. Unfortunately, there is still very little choice.
But I'm just assume that it's just not ready with the product maturity and continue with the developers - hopefully.

What I personally find a bit of a shame - and here of course plays purely the iPhone experience - is that you can only adjust a homescreen.
The "free" screen I would also like to clean up the date and time - but is not.

The input methods are superior to those of the Finnish flagship of the iPhone and the Storm.
The keyboard is very easy to operate despite my really big fingers.
On the iPhone, I had hardly any problems (because the "keys" while typing were larger) - the Storm, who did not have this feature, it was difficult for me.

The keys have a clean pressure point and you really have no typos.
Only at the beginning I had to get used to the short position of Shift and Spacebar.
Deliver the point just as special characters (Left arrow button above) is inappropriate.
Here a software change would be (pressing the button, or double press the spacebar) desirable!

The touchscreen responds very precisely. I both compared with iPhone and the Storm
(One "click-touch screen" has) I'm very happy with the Nokia here.
However, the kinetic scrolling on the iPhone is still missing me a little bit.
The Lock button works perfectly for me. I understand none of the problems described here in this regard.
The "red" and "green" button also react immediately.
The position sensors react quickly - not iPhone level - but fast.
The BlackBerry is losing a lot of ground here.

Let's talk about software.
Unfortunately I had the cell phone (must be to actually say mobile
or stone me then someone) the first day without contacts use
because it can not synchronize with the Mac. I hope that will be submitted.

The Brower is absolute top class - super fast, is as good as anything, and is very easy to use.
Even YouTube etc. is running fast and smooth.

What's to complain of me, is the e-mail "client". The missing namely.
Although it is the e-mail function in the given messages, but that's a joke for that the N97 is advertised as an email machine.
BlackBerry Nokia leads here before really. I had therefore only stress and anger.
Even when PushMail theme, Nokia should be geared here to RIM. It can go so easy!

Even the Nokia Mail service that is well-chargeable, is a joke against the functionality of a BlackBerry.
I've now because (unfortunately) 22 expensive "ProfiMail" installed and go with it very well.
Great client with many features.
Unfortunately push comes afaik not, but it calls for every minute of my mails.

Unfortunately, the program is no widget function - hopefully comes as something else.
Speaking widget, even the original Nokia mail program can display only one (!!) mailbox on the widget. Embarrassing!
What I personally still lacks is a screen saver is active deeds lock, indicating on screen tip time, messages and missed calls
(Or I do not think the only option?)

Compared to the iPhone, the movement animation and the whole put zurückhalender, or partially missing entirely.
The music player is okay, not the giver, but is okay.
The iPhone sets the bar here correspondingly high.
In conclusion that the Nokia N97 is a great device.
It is not a panacea but it's definitely a - up to the e-mail client - an excellent device.

What I miss:
- A solution for Microsoft Exchange mailboxes
- More Widgets
- Mac support
- A desktop charger
- Apps, apps, apps,
