After unpacking, it took less than 5 minutes and I was with the router for the first time in the network. The first start with entering the provider data and basic settings were completely intuitively by hand. Also, the wireless worked right away with maximum security set. Even an absolute layman should get the router up and running in no time.
For those who like to configure a little more, you can switch on the surface in the expert mode. Here then even the biggest freak should be satisfied ;-)
The security is also very good.
The router comes with a good firewall. There are the standard collateral installed (MAC filter, password protection, etc.), as well as a child safety lock. The WLAN dominated WEP, WPA and WPA2 and can via a button on the device at any time switched on and off.
Of the 4 LAN ports, 3 pieces can be completely turned off, which also contributes to additional security (no unauthorized infected possible).
Very nice also a built-in function for energy saving (though I do not use them).
With the supplied software, the most important data are available at any time, without having to lock ups in the router and also a software update is a mouse click quickly and without problems of equip. Again, a software firewall is integrated which monitors the program access to the Internet. For W2000 users certainly a good extension and possibly even a good alternative for the built-in firewall in XP. In Vista, the use is expected but unnecessary.
A little thing bothers me personally something: One can on the device itself does not tell if traffic is detected (eg, by a flashing LED). With my old router I could still see it when larger down or uploads were completed without having to turn on the monitor. But that is only a blemish that is likely to interfere, but me, anyone ;-)
In short, the device is not cheap, but recommended value and fully his money.
Addendum of 30/05/2011:
After we finally got fast DSL (previously only DSL384), I had only DSL6000. Again, the box worked flawlessly and with absolute reliability.
After switching to DSL 16000 (which the box can and should I even have a friend, in which it works), the box made only massive bit errors and I arrived, the bottom line, the speed of DSL1000 no more out. Even after replacing the Box by AVM, is no improvement showed.
Apparently the hardware and firmware issues with the way DSL central office, which is installed with us (it is an outdoor DSLAM, with Infineon technology).
Forced moderation, I had to buy myself a new box, and now runs the 3270 error-free and at full speed.
