The first or discovery of a "spirit" (especially since it only since the beginning of this year on the German market are those rum) often has indeed her little backstory. When Don Papa it ran something like this: as the aroma of different whiskeys can indeed have an enormous range of variation, the host of a well patronized restoration pushed us to Don Papa below as whiskey. "Try" were his last words before he looked into my enthusiastic face. The Enlightenment followed course immediately ...
Flavor, aroma and color
I want to (and can) about not losing so many words ... you have to have time smelled and tasted even him easily. Just this: the flavor is, as I see it, be particularly characteristic: very intense, caramel and honey. The premium taste I would describe as a soft, pleasing and balanced. The rum has no "burning" aftertaste. The color I would describe as clear and dark amber.
The basis for these Premium Aged Rum, a particularly high-quality varieties of sugar cane, comes from the island of Negros Occidental philipinischen and will mature stored after distillation for 7 years in the vicinity of Mount Kanlaon in barrels made of American oak. Negros Occidental can be considered the main island of the Philippines Sugar-designate (60% of annual production comes from here). The ideal combination of climate, geographical location and the rich volcanic soil makes this island the preferred region for the cultivation of sugar cane.
The label in small batches (small batch) produced rum I find very original design (see magnifying glass function in the product photo): in the form of a historical paper bill with many highly detailed motifs (Gecko tail as monocle or snail as Mustache). As the main design feature of course, the head of its namesake Don Papa, a former hero of the independence struggle philipinischen.
Conclusion
As personal rum discovery of one of the great regions of sugarcane (Philippines) promises Don Papa (40% by volume, 0,7Liter) an excellent and exotic treat for the palate and nose.
I would recommend it, because of the intensely pleasant aroma, pure in a so-called "Tasting" - or Nosing "(here for example this.) To enjoy -glass way:. The longer he open the glass" remains ", is more intense its aroma and sweet its taste.
I dare hardly write: Of course it can also be mixed. Is it but really a shame.

05/20/2014 - Supplement
Because of my "discovery" to drink rum pure and my special "enthusiasm" for the Don Papa I have currently, for comparability and for better classification of taste / flavor, sometimes three rums from the top ranks of two rum leaderboards (Amazon.com and rumundco.de) ordered and also compared with each other:
1. Ron Botucal Reserva Exclusiva (Venezuela)
2. Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Sistema Solera (Guatemala)
3. Legendario Elixir de Cuba Rum (Cuba)
All three are of course premium rums and have as similar as typical aroma unfolding of a top rums (caramel, vanilla, tropical fruits). But none of these three are aroma and taste so in accordance as the DonPapa. Often one has the aroma in the nose and then is still surprised by the intensive-alcoholic taste when drinking and missed the right flavor to the previously experienced aroma. When Don Papa is definitely different.
The "Legendario Elixir de Cuba" you can actually compare NOT EVEN with the other. For as to sugar content, alcohol content and consistency "plays" this more in the "liqueur-league". I would call this a rum liqueur.
Probably professionielle rum connoisseurs now tearing their hair. "How can you compare a 7 year stored Rum (Don Papa) with 23 years of stored rum (Ron Zacapa)". But taste aromatic sensation is now time individually and preferences may vary. So I have, for example read reviews on other portals to Don Papa where the valuation trend in the direction of "überaromatisiert" or "simply too intense" goes. For me personally, this intense aroma and flavor.
