Already the last album "Glad Rag Doll" surprised with a different style, why not try again in a new direction?
Streicher mean for me not equal Kitsch On the contrary, I find this great arranged in jazz very exciting area (and for me Diana Krall sings still with her jazz voice and not as a pop-mouse). Spontaneously come to mind here the albums "Bill Evans Trio with Symphony Orchestra" or "The sensual sound of Sony Stitt" a: jazz with strings can go together very well. What is the latter, but the difference to "Wallflower" makes that they are actually jazzy, a bit more rough edges have this album well done safely. And that they had implemented almost better with Claus Ogerman on their album "The Look of Love" or "Quiet Nights" and there were no jazz standards and pop songs ...
What's on this album but actually really bothers me the "Booklet" that does not deserve its name. Verve is a jazz label, a very old and even these record company would have to know that most jazz listeners are also interested in the composition of the music. In jazz LPs this information were not when sleeve on the cover, then on the inside or even indicated on specially enclosed leaves. Now, on the inserted here Papers (fits here better than Booklet) actually listed the respective occupations, which actually would be positive if, yes if the whole thing would be read in addition to the pieces of music. I suspect that the layout was designed for the LP version and was simply reduced for the CD. Because a CD version that's a typographical disaster: here really need to guess everything is there because it is too small and this even in thin font negative printed on a dark background that can not manage even the best printer. And that's pretty poor for a record label, saving it, accompanied by a booklet reasonable even with the expensive Deluxe version of a CD-guaranteed bestseller. Ought to be a star deduction, but 3 star I think actually for too little for this album.
Note: I evaluate here the deluxe version, it could thus a different overall impression created than in the normal version.
