The Battleship Potemkin (Audio CD)

Customer Review

What must that mean? The Pet Shop Boys, masters of electronic pop music compose the soundtrack for the silent film classic "Battleship Potemkin" from the 20s. Sounds strange, but it works perfectly.
Since the Pet Shop Boys have always had a penchant for orchestral and monumental they are quasi ambitious for this project. The mixture of classical orchestra and Electro sounds niches works brilliantly, the duo and the Dresden Symphony harmonize perfectly.
This works in part because neither side dominated by two, but take turns and arranged together. Time the orchestra is in the foreground, sometimes the electronic sounds of Boys. But still both factors are perfectly matched.
And versatile all well. Sometimes it is very orchestral, sometimes contemplative, then choirs are used. Mostly, the whole sad melancholic and sometimes just relaxing music, almost chilling. And on "Nyet" or "The Squadron" can dance properly. And singing happens. On the plays "After All", "No Time for Tears" or "For Freedom" takes Neil Tennant also for micro sings new exclusive Pop-numbers of the duo.
The "Battleship Potemkin" soundtrack of the Pet Shop Boys is not only suitable for the film, but also to listen in addition to the film. The music is both classically, as well as pop, both monumental and very relaxing. And where to find ever such a mixture.
The ambitious project of the Pet Shop Boys is completely managed and shows that the band can write more than just simple pop songs. For all PSB fans the part is a must, as well as fans of electronic music and pop-like access and so get to know the sound of the other faction.
