The album title could almost be a challenge to the scene Guardian that the darkness and thus the Black Metal no laws follows. And so sounds the music of Watain. Death is cold and dark so at least promise us the opener Deaths Cold Dark. A gloomy start, but the boys from Watain can not last long back. It sounds as if they were shouting Now go away, we want to play! And they put out a brilliant start. Already the first song beats, rumbles and tinkers going on, but without lapsing into meaningless Rumdrescherei. Again and again the pace is changed to summon the masses and the handset is rapidly trying to clench his fist, to be equal but again bludgeoned by relentless fast passages. And from the very beginning stands out especially one aspect: The guitars. Again and again flashes on delightfully sinister yet beautiful melodies that give hope for more highlights. And you will not be disappointed. Even when following Malfeitor the hour of the guitarist came. The ingenious tunes that run through the whole song and finally towards reaching a dramatic climax, are simply out of this world. I turn on the part on repeat, listen to it three times, four times, five times in succession to it happened to me. That sounds powerful, which sounds majestically I could go on for hours writing so. But on it goes, because this is far from the end. Reaping Death thrashing going on and pulls me out of my reverie. The music rumbles and then pushes me almost in front of it. But would not Watain Watain, when even here a change would not bring with again. Again, the pace is throttled and cold, bone-chilling melodies. To describe every single song, would probably draw a much too long to review, and yet each book has its own charm. Lawless Darkness is one of the few black metal discs that you can really hear through from start to finish. Everywhere change is required, it is not just monotonous. Time is bludgeoned violently at the beginning (eg Four Thrones), then lift sinister melodies the music in unattainable dimensions (Malfeitor or the title track), catchy songs with epic sing-along passages that call for dark dance ("Total Funeral") or resound majestic screams that tear every Black Metal disciples fist in the air and let mitbrüllen here is a not boring. Everything fits here. The singing is wonderful croaking and fits perfectly in the whole picture. Each instrument is taken to the point exactly. Who this music opens and immersed completely in it, in the dark fire of passion is unleashed. Although not as much is bludgeoned and raged, but the music is wonderfully dark and threatening. So Black Metal has to sound at this time. Clear, Watain created nothing new here. But they must not also. You create it, from the mass of bands that are there now, stand out, and unlike so many other bands they know exactly what they do. And they know what they want. Your Swedish origin is noted in every song, always flashing a pinch or Bathory Dissection on. Here, the guys are not afraid even to approach the classic metal. But all that does not bother at all. The Swedes have developed their own style, and laid with Lawless Darkness a damn good album. Could not be better.
