The main reasons for the running distance measurement via Footpod instead of GPS for me are:
- Footpod measurement is more accurate, especially in a wooded area.
- Even without calibration is to measure very precisely. When I have marathon festgetellt exactly 2% deviation, this I have now manually recalibrated (setting has lasted 30 seconds).
- Not charging the clock necessary. I wear the FR60 constantly as a normal clock (;-) to underline my sporty touch). It is ideal for everyday use. In contrast, the GPS watches are still clunky and often need to be loaded.
- GPS guidance with GPS watches I find very troublesome, because you have to move to get a reliable indication of direction. For's cycling I have the Garmin Edge 800 and am very happy with it - but here's the advantage that the device has a large screen and you can navigate properly. The only two advantages in GPS watches I see is that the height profile of the barrel is co-written (which can not FR60) and that there is the "return to start" (for running in unfamiliar terrain) - but how often does you mean?
But now for FR60 itself:
One advantage is that the FR60 on the wireless standard ANT + very easy to use to communicate with other devices. In my case, my laptop and the Tanita scales BC-1000 (is a really funny part - you press the FR60 the light button for a few seconds, then you can put on the scales and then sees the weight data on the clock - for data export to the PC you can see all detailed information, such body fat etc. in Garmin Connect). Communication with the PC is solved perfectly: Just the Garmin stick into the USB drive and the upload of data is done automatically (in the background). For me these are the run data and health data (from the scale). All data are collected on Garmin Connect (a free portal of Garmin). The data from cycling are written together with the run data in an online training diary. In my case, the data coming from the Edge 800 bike, my girlfriend has the ladies-FR60 by bike sensor GSC-10 and uses the FR60 as bike computer. I used to never led a training diary, because I was too strenuous. With the Garmin Connect training diary is fully automated and I see every 2 weeks a look. Really very convenient.
Another advantage is the ease of use of the FR60. The menu is absolutely intuitive. The display is characterized by its upright form not particularly pretty, but this very clearly. This is particularly true for the so-called. Training pages, so the information which is required during running. These training sites can be configured individually (eg, time-distance heart rate at a glance).
So overall: A strong buy recommendation.
