Preface (?) Of "The Boy"

I came to this novel because I have recently acquired and carefully read "On the Brink" 1919 edition by Victor Margueritte. I sought who this writer and I arrived at "The Boy" ...
I would have appreciated a preface a simple presentation of the author written on one to two pages but it has more than 20 pages so I jumped playback. I read the novel, liked it very much and made myself my own opinion.
Then I came back to this long comment which becomes "afterword"; we are in the subject. Quotations of passages of the novel then become understandable. It seems to me that underneath the title it would have been wiser to print postscript to Mr. so and so!
