Sound
At Sennheiser Momentum Over Ear and the Audio Technica ESW9 the FIIO sounds X1 very good, as expected. Both are low-HiFi headphones for use on mobile devices. Its full potential unfolds the FIIO X1 but the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 ohms). The player is small, unlike all smartphones (that I know), not overwhelmed by the Studio listener. Ever harmonizes the FIIO X1 very well with Beyerdynamic because he refurbishes the sound a little, what the Beyerdynamics not do their part. As a traveling companion insofar as the foldable Beyerdynamic DTX provides up to 501 (already implemented). In sum, remains an analytically clear sound, but neutral and not too cool. FLAC and OGG files come with weak compressed CD quality. That can not smartphones.
The X1 controls over aux input (3.5mm jack) and the car radio in very good quality, much better than the usual Bluetooth connection of a smartphone. So the FIIO X1 is a significant step in the right direction. HiFi for everyone, everywhere.
Service
Well, there is still some way to go. My old Sansa E250 with Rockbox suggests the FIIO by far. Too bad, because the buttons has FIIO plentiful and the display is bright and sharp enough. It lacks the configurability, including font size. The beautiful wheel is not as versatile as the Sansa, for example, not to adjust the volume. The FIIO must always only be woken up before it can implement key signals. That was when Sansa different. The FIIO database is limited to 5,800 titles. However, this should be rectified. Good but does the card formatting, even with 64 GB. Problemo zero. The equalizer is useful and very fine (1dB steps) adjustable. But that was all, at Digital Sound Processing. Rockbox has much more going for, for example, cross-feed. Also, the Android smartphone can do much more, for example, with the neutron player. The battery life is actually neat. It definitely comes through the day, rather several days. Files to play on the SD card and off you go. You do not need annoying software on the home computer. Insgesamtist the FIIO X1 so useful, but I hope however to a very Rockboxversion as an alternative operating system.
Processing
Flawless workmanship. The case makes a stable impression. Nothing knarzt.Keine visible column. Buttons with a defined pressure point. The scroll wheel now and then missed a snap, but that could also be a software problem (sampling rate of the control signals).
The silicone case is a start, but a matching leather case I'd rather have (also at an additional cost). Perhaps that will come. Just a pity that the battery is not replaceable. Here the iBasso can DX50 longer, but also costs three times.
Conclusion
For 100 euros a good deal and the entry into the high resolution world of mobile players. Better than a smartphone it sounds definitely. The service is ok overall. For a version with Rockbox as an operating system and an exchangeable battery, I would, however, willing to spend twice as much. Marketing experts FIIO, just think about it.
