Are there better Telephoto Lenses with a long focal length, than the Sigma 120-400? Undoubtedly there is! One need not search long time to find one. The 120-300 from the same home is brighter, and should, if we are to believe the tests on the internet, be continuous sharper. Even Canon has some excellent lenses in this category offer. But you look at the prices of these 'better' lenses on, you realize quickly that you can afford two or three 120-400er for the same money. The Sigma 120-400 is certainly not the absolute best telephoto zoom, but definitely the best for the price. And no, the Canon 100-400L which cost twice, is not an alternative, if you put on price / performance value. Since I am a person who is interested in many aspects of photography, and always want to try something new, I can not afford to pay for the last 5% of image quality twice or three times. What I like most 120-400er: Good coverage. The long end with 400mm allows an even to photograph animals that are very shy. The picture quality is very good overall. AF and image stabilization function quickly and reliably. The lens is solid and processed valent, and has a matt and 'rough' finish, which improves handling enormously. The lens is so good in the hand and does not slip, which is very important at this size and this weight. What I did not like so much: For me, the following was not decisive, since one can counteract well with Fade Out, but the focus can be on the long end by noticeable when shooting with open aperture. I bezel to 1, 2 Stops, and increase the sensitivity accordingly. The sensors in the current DSLRs are mMn so good that one in daylight hardly any difference between ISO100 and 400 sees. If it is bright enough, I did not increase the sensitivity. Conclusion: The Sigma 120-400 is not a perfect lens, but for 750 it is unrivaled. The weakness at the long end can be eliminated by stopping down. And the positive aspects clearly outweigh. Anyone who is not willing to pay several times, and still want to enjoy real wildlife photography, this lens should look closer at any rate!
