I would buy the 8620 again, but compared to my old HP 6500 he brings little advantage except high speed ePrint and lower printing costs. For the photo scanning and photo prints in my opinion, are not quite as good as the old HP device. They are just pretty good.
Some things you should definitely consider when buying and using, however:
- The thing is really very big and black (felt almost twice as large as the HP 6500 with ADF and duplex). Had him after unpacking therefore almost returned. So make sure to first view in the store!
- The HP 8620 is tricky with the paper. Good black you only get on track, more expensive paper, about my 100gr HP paper that is ideally suited for duplex printing. (Other HP paper I have not tried it yet. What is important is the Color Lock feature.) In copy paper from the post office, the black is dark gray-flat and the characters are not very sharp. On better paper of text expression, however, as I said, fine. Even when Duplex ADF and duplex printing can sometimes be hakelig the device in the wrong paper.
- VERY IMPORTANT! By default, the scanned PDF files are monumental! My 6-sided sample scan (85% text with a DIN A5 photo) is at 300dpi, color, not searchable, 5MB (!) Large. That would be unacceptable for larger amounts of text (for example, all books)! Therefore again an important tip that almost goes in ETKs review and is not mentioned in any Support Forum: The method of choice for people who want to scan larger page volumes, is clearly the format "PDF color (compressed)", which only from the device and only when scanning in Email and Scan to Network Folder and Scan to USB flash drive is available: For the same scan instead of 5 MB only 700 KB in size!
I have now just released me a folder on my laptop as a network folder and scan now get the Compressed format. Practically the coming to the same thing, such as "Scan to PC". (And that I can do that only from the device, is also no problem dolles, I must go there anyway to load the original. However, the process only works over a network (eg Wi-Fi) connection, otherwise you have to USB flash drive scan.) The format is not searchable. Searchable Scans (OCR) you get only from the computer.
Scant one way a via Adobe Acrobat, you can get excellent quality results with only 360K for said 6-page color 300dpi sample scan. Unfortunately, at least in my old program version, very lahngsam! There used to Optimized, the file shrinks even at about 175 KB! This gets the HP-proprietary software but then not go. Too bad!
A general feature: searchable scans are unlike many Support¬foren claiming basically small and usually of better quality than nichtdurchsuch¬bare scans. Said sample scan has in PDF Color (searchable) format rather than 5 MB at least 3 MB. Who wants to have smaller file sizes for color scans searchable, must serve up to sizes / Quality slider (in HP Scanning, Advanced Settings, register file): Somewhere in the range of 1/8 and 1/6 of the range I have decent quality searchable for sample scanning achieved with approximately 1.5 MB file size. (Or one scans the same with an external program such as Adobe Acrobat and optimized; because the files are still considerably smaller.)
Overall, the HP 8620 is a highly powerful and fast universal device of good quality, with some verschmerzbaren peculiarities and some send additional candy that I can send the device on the go via email print jobs using my smartphone, etc. I particularly like.
In my opinion the value for money is also very good. I would buy it again, but you should at this universal device no exaggerated expectations (Photoscan- and photo print quality). However, four points are more than deserved.
