Pure excitement: the first "waterproof" Opinel

Inexpensive, convenient and cult of little Frenchman comes along and you can buy this traditional folding knife in various sizes and in different versions. There are stainless and (non-stainless but very sharp) carbon steel blades to choose from and the wooden handle you have the choice between different kinds of wood. And thus we would at the, in my opinion the only disadvantage of the classic Opinel knife: It does not like humidity!

If the wooden shaft of Opinel damp or wet, then the wood swells slightly and so jammed the knife blade, so you can not open the knife.

With the new (described here) Opinel No. 8 Outdoor is this issue now history, because the body is here made of plastic.

Contrary to my initial fears, the Opinel Outdoor VERY a quality image.

It is heavier than the wooden blades of the same size, the blade is slightly thicker and was provided with a shackle and a part serrated blade.

My Conclusion:

A bold move by Opinel.
Route from the classic wooden handle, towards the indestructible plastic.
In case of a real outdoor knife an important and right decision, because the reliability and the service life of the blade is substantially increased.

The knife can look very sophisticated, the blade is sharp and the processing is surprisingly high.
It fits comfortably in your hand and it can work well with the outdoor Opinel.
As a special gimmick of the handle contains an integrated emergency whistle.

The price is compared to wood Opinel considerably higher, but I think the price of just 22 euros fitted for absolutely.
Have already had knives, which run into the 3-digit price range, and high can not keep up.
