Especially since the recent TDB Vinyl editions may be obtained only in abbreviated form and were partly pressed catastrophic. Furthermore, prices for used discs are usually disproportionately high.
Now today the 20th Anniversary came by mail.
The presentation is very good. The cover in very good condition, excellent print. The liners are also very valuable, but I would hope that, above all quality vinyls rather be supplied instead of in paper / in antistatic inner sleeves.
The vinyl itself is completely free of scratches in the promised quality 180g and luckily and residue from the pressing plant can not be seen at first glance (actually self-evident, but nowadays unfortunately not always the case). However, both discs are not completely flat and the tone arm moves easily rollercoaster - a pity! In the disc with the C and D side also the center hole is not punched clean, you even require some force to get the plate on the plate .. For the price, the vehicle must not really be!
With slight palpitation and great anticipation then the first audio sample (to a consistently high quality chain). I'll make it short: I expected a lot more and am disappointed. It's hard to describe, I try therefore to discuss the details.
- Lacks a little clarity, purity and fine sophistication that has made so famous mainly PF
- Known for vinyl and CD against a mostly larger "sound-heat" and complex dynamics missing almost
- Some louder passages (eg Keep Talking) are partly right, "shrill"
- Sometimes it sounds like a curtain, slightly dull and sometimes overdriven (too much loudness at Remaster?)
I had the idea that my needle could possibly come close to your final age .. I almost even then have been happy, because this problem would have been easy to solve. But a test with 2 of my audiophile favorite slices confirmed the continuing soundness of the needle.
Because it let me no rest, I have placed my 1994er version of the CD for direct comparison and the sounds ("unfortunately") better, cleaner, clearer, differentiated - a total of more dynamic and fine tuned.
Almost all of my vinyls I have a CD version (had) and almost without exception I hear much prefer the record version. TDB 2014 can not do it (for now) :(
Conclusion: maybe I had bad luck and got a "Monday-disc". In this respect, I would be very grateful if you use the comment function to confirm my impressions either or to write to me if necessary, whether an exchange would be worth (Amazon has since fairly straightforward).
Addendum of 29/06/2014:
The whole thing has left me no peace, because nearly all of my discs from PF are in very good quality. Have cleaned intensively yesterday evening with the Knosti and fresh cleaning fluid, the discs. Apparently it was not visible residues from the pressing plant in the groove. Now it sounds like it should ... :) As I write this, is currently running High Hopes - class and am in luck!
