It would be inappropriate to criticize this work. I study Japanese at the University and more aid me to understand my part. Describing the various realities of the beginning of the Edo era (including and especially the outlawing of Christianity in Japan) and the gap that the culture shock that followed the entrance of the main character in Japan. The final conclusion is rather bitter, because if the conclusion is more than likely, the tone given to it seems out of step with the rest of the work (more descriptive purposes).
Last thing: I enjoyed my reading, even if I have to refer to a dictionary at other times. I know that the translation work is complicated and the Japanese style is hard to transcribe. But I sometimes found the effects of heavy repetitions (that is of course their goal ... but anyway). The word "Dark" loses more than he gains impact, there or the word "Silence" is revealed as an excellent choice of title.
